Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? maybe you should clean your ears more frequently. a flag is just fabric. they wave in the wind, drape coffins and wrap delluded minds in the warm glow of nationalism.

the concepts that people associate with various flags are the things that people need to focus their energies on more. anyone who claims to fight or die for a flag is entirely missing the point. few people would argue with you that liberty, freedom, democracy or justice shouldn't be destroyed. sadly, the very people who should be protecting those ideas are destroying them. i'd rather that they go out and burn some fabric.

I personally think that there is nothing wrong with the desecration of a piece of multi-colored fabric, especially considering how it is currently being used. While my personal politics has led me to a stance where I view the flag as a tool of the current leadership of our country, I do understand that there is a sect of the population that views the flag as a representation of an ideology rather than a piece of fabric that's waved around in an effort to make people feel guilty for believing that our freedom is being stolen away from us right before our eyes.

that's the thing i've never really understood about people who are so offended by flagburning. they ramble on about how much the flag means and what it represents, when the very thing that the american flag SHOULD represent is my right to burn it. liberty? freedom? you may choose to demonstrate yours by waving a flag while others choose to demonstrate theirs by burning it. same concept.

so please explain to me WHY burning a flag is so offensive. i say not being allowed to burn on is a greater offense.

"and if this country is so goddamn free then i can burn your ****ing flag whenever i goddamn please. and then i'm gonna stick it up your ****ing ass!"

I'm a writer, a journalist actually. I've worked for a number of magazines in Cincinnati, along with a fair amount of freelance stuff. Unfortunately, I've been so busy with preparing for graduate school, that I've slacked off on my writing and have only worked on a few minor projects, only because they were handed to me and I had nothing better to do that week. It's not that I'm lazy, but I'm merely letting my brain take a vacation until I start school again.

And I would love to show people what I've done, but all in all, it's pretty boring. I have a few things in the works at the moment, and if all goes well, I'll have them done in the next month or two. At that time, I'll bump this thread and eagerly await the snide comments.

the ones who get most offended at a symbol of freedom and democracy being burned don't even seem to notice when the actual freedom and democracy are being trashed.

but back to the art, please!
