Yeah, okay, that's kinda funny.

summerinside 07-17-06 08:52 PM

I always hated the chrome. (the black with the red text was boss)

Landgolier 07-17-06 08:52 PM

Somebody call me when complete ones with upgraded forks hit $300

humancongereel 07-17-06 08:53 PM

man, the 55cm crowd does not like pistas.

sashae 07-17-06 09:25 PM

Who the hell buys a bike, rides it 20miles, then sells it. Or buys a bike and lets it sit in their apartment for 6 months.

This vexes me to no end.

pitboss 07-17-06 09:26 PM

indeed it is Michael, but not the guard that is built to last.

more like the yard raking itself.

The same people who buy a gym membership in January, go 2 times and sell it on CL after not going for 6 months.

sashae 07-17-06 09:30 PM

Ignoring a gym membership is a passive act. Stepping over your brand-new-still-with-the-little-rubber-hairs-on-the-tires Pista every time you need to go to the bathroom is a little more... willful.

ThaRiddla 07-17-06 09:41 PM

it's the same as ignoring the gut you see in the mirror every time your in the bathroom peeing, or ignoring the gym membership card in your wallet or on your keyring.

Mueslix 07-17-06 10:38 PM

I'm fighting the urget o write to each and every one and ask why they never rode their bikes. How can you drop that kind of cash on something and barely use it? And why don't I have that kind of money?

ZachS 07-17-06 11:11 PM

they buy it to be cool and realize that they're just vaginas

Aeroplane 07-18-06 06:11 AM

Not all didn't ride it; the first guy got some use, and even made some sensible upgrades. I wish I lived in SF so I could snatch them up cheap though...

the pope 07-18-06 08:28 AM

Okay, you scoured the craigslist of five of the huge metropolitan areas in the united states, found ten bikes for sale.

And suggest a changing of the guard.

No offense, dude, but this analysis rivals that of the Moral Majority.

hyperRevue 07-18-06 08:32 AM

Ugh.

jonb 07-18-06 08:58 AM

why are they always small. i mean i would buy a second complete bike for 400. just to have another one :p damn.

or the urban majority. find me ten pistas in kansas, missouri, and indiana cl. and as for changing of the guard, maybe they are all flipping them to get njs cert. keirin bikes.

MrCjolsen 07-18-06 09:09 AM

The Pista:

1. Is very popular
2. Does not meet the needs of the average cyclist who does not track race.
3. Has been purchased by a lot of people because of #1 who are soon made aware of #2.

i was very leery of this when i bought mine. even the people at the shop were like "are you sure you want a track bike?" i was sure, and i'm going to ride my pista into the ground, however long that takes. but lazy me waited too long to sign up for the velodrame class so i have to wait until next month to get it on the track.

this is a really sad thread. those people make me sad. they spent all that money on a decent bike and didn't ride it. they made their bikes sad. it's not cool to make your bike sad. and if my girlfriend hadn't just bought an IRO, i'd be tempted to hit up one of those 53cm sellers.

onetwentyeight 07-18-06 11:07 AM

ahaha. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bik/183201759.html

in the velodrome picture at the bottom, you can see spencer and myself. :)

Sweet, I hope riders raise the bar. Would love to see more increadible street riders out there.

Re-Cycle 07-18-06 02:58 PM

I heart the **** out of my pista

That pic is hilarious. I want to write in a thought bubble above the rider in front (you know...the guy with the blue jeans and bullhorns): "Oh, snap! They caught me already?!"

(sorry about the huge photo...it's from that CL post)

onetwentyeight 07-18-06 03:24 PM

what amuses me about that photo is its from when we were just pacing doing warm up laps.

i like your interpretation :)

they love when the city kids show up in jeans. 20 extra laps for you!

onetwentyeight 07-18-06 04:00 PM

i was totally the other city kid in jeans in that pic, and i really didnt care what any of the other racers thought, though I dont think they cared. They seemed happy I was giving the velodrome a shot. I managed to do alright, even though I couldnt get my cog off at the track to switch out of my city gearing. Still kept up in team persuit, (though just barely.) It was my first time at Hellyer.

I deffinately understand the appeal of spandex now, though. While I havent bought any yet, I will rock some next time for sure.

i was kinda wondering about that as i'm going to a track class next month at marymoore (redmond, wa). was planning on showing up in my rapha shants since jeans are even worse about chaffing and bunching. i'm not sure i can do spandex though. i understand it, even appreciate what it's for, but i'm not sure i can slap on some spankies ;)

onetwentyeight 07-18-06 04:57 PM

yea, rapha shants would work. Hell id rather rock that if I could afford a pair at the moment. it was the chafing and the lack of butt padding that killed me. Oh and the scorching heat.
