bikeless

got creamed by a hit and run a week ago. one wheel is tacoed, the other shattered. frame is bent from what I told but I havent seen it yet since the cops are holding it for evidence still. ****ers. No broken bones, but one tooth was knocked out, one twitsed around in its socket, and another chipped severely. There is a metal wire stabalizing my teeth while the two damaged teeth around the one knocked out heal up. I will need surgery to remove the root of the one knocked out, then need 2 root canals and an implant. I have nasty road rash on my knees to the extent I cant bend my left leg. Road rash on my face too, stitches in my chin, scrapes on the side of my jaw, face, and nose. Possible fracture of my upper jaw. I had a concussion, too, I think. Could have been much worse but I'm facing upwards of 5grand in dental bills. So yea. ride safe, and **** cars. if anyone sees a dented car with blood on it in san francisco, huck a ulock thru their window. I was ahead of my friends when I got hit, and the other witness car split, too. No idea what the make was, or lisence, and I dont really remember much about the accident so I am not even sure on the color but I'm told silver.

BLAH.

i'm really sorry to hear that. was it the stan miles that got wrecked? i'm not sure what your income/insurance situation is, but you could investigate the free/discounted care programs at local major hospitals. they don't go around advertising it, but if they're non profit they're usually required to give out a certain amount of free care.

I've got some spare stuff you can have. The bike kitchen is another good source for parts. Hope you heal up soon.

i have enough parts to build up two complete bikes, I just dont have a frame. I have kaiser insurance but it doesnt cover dental, which is where I am going to need the most work.

I'm also a Kaiser kid. I'll ask around if anyone knows a dentist who could help.

Glad you're ok enough to post here. Aside from maybe avoiding a concussion, the helmet wouldn't have helped much around the mouth area unless it was a full face one. Still, they're not a bad idea. Good luck finding the driver. I hope the driver gets run over by a truck while still in his car.

me too! I dont understand what in a person would let them just keep driving after hitting another human being. my bag saved my ass though. I somehow ended up on the ground with my bag under my head. My laptop managed to survive (though the ti case is dented, its a power book), and the bag itself is in great shape.

props to freight bags and booqbags laptop sleeves.

I thought you posted last week that you were at fault? ie drunk and running a red or something. It sucks that the driver left but how would him staying have helped you if that was the case?

dutret - i was feeling crappy as it was the morning i crashed and feeling blue. now that i've talked to a few people, I still feel I was partially at fault for riding agressively, but not 100%. I had drank a few beers and lost control comming down a very steep hill that i was unfamiliar with. Ive descended worse with no problems. i turned right at the bottom to join the flow of traffic but a speeding car on the inside lane (i got the attention of the car on the outside lane that i was turning into before i got to the intersection) hit me and ran off. That been said I dont remember a lot of it, and I will never know for sure exactly what happened.

roachtrap - at the er one of the nurses told me it happens every day.

Heal quickly.

Partially at fault or not, hitting a person with a car and then driving off is unforgivable.

Could not agree more. Hope you feel better soon or at least not in too much pain to get a bike back together.

Who had right of way? If you had a stop sign, a red light or something you are 100% at fault. Lost control? How drunk were or should you maybe put a brake on.

It is completely understandable how someone else who "had a few beers" would freak out and run off after some dip**** shot out in front of them with no warning. Not right or legal but understandable. Anger, fear, combined with the adreniline of such an incident make it so.

Hit and run is instant 100% fault if I'm not mistaken.

dutret - i gotta ask, why are you even bothering with arguing the details on this? I got hit by a car. jesus. you have to be one of the biggest, most condescending *******s on this forum, and people like you are why i hesitated in posting about my accident in the first place. Please stay out of this thread. Thank you.

that been said, there was neither a stop sign or a light, as far as I can reacall. I do believe the car had the right of way as the road I was turning onto is a more highly trafficed road than the one I was comming from. I didn't realize this at the time. However, they were still speeding, and they sitll hit me, and they still ran off, and thats all that really matters in the end. Its not like they'll ever be caught or persecuted, so it doesnt really matter, does it? I had had about a six pack over the course of about 4 hours, which included a good bit of riding in the middle. I dont know how I lost control. I think I hit a pot hole or something and my foot came out of the pedal, and I probably was overconfident and thought I could ride it out. I dont ride with brakes cuz neither of the track bikes I've owned have had drilled forks. If I get the stan miles repaired, I will be asking for a pair of forks to be created, identical, except one drilled, and one not. I've never been anti brake, or felt I was too good for one. Thats not an issue.

dutret, you might think that your points are ultra important and perhaps some of them are indeed, but you don't have to be a big dick in order to make them. Act like a ****'n human being and show some sympathy for your fellow man.

onetwentyeight, heal up!
