Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

posted the 7300 as that was the only picture I had close to the 7400s. For clarifacation, a NOS set of 7400s = 350 on ebay. I paid 20 for mine used and I consider it money well spent. I prefer these pedals to my sylvans, nuevos, and anything else i have tried. Thats what I care about. Dont try to tell me they are uncomfortable, because I seem to be doing fine on them.

Dutret, did you honestly think he was running an AX crankset/pedal combo on his fixed gear?

C'mon!

People have done far dumber things on this board. And the AX was the best looking pedal ever made and is practically free these days which would only increase the likelihood of someone doing it.

I have trouble believing you couldn't have typed shimano 7400 into google images. Also if you are running 7400s with double straps I'm not sure why you think you are the only one riding them. There have been whole threads devoted to the subject.

i had mks sylvans for a long time, and they are really a tremendous value, especially having ridden friends' wellgos and whatnot

a while ago i swapped them out for a pair of rx-1's that i traded a pair of handlebars and a little $ to a forum member for. they are really amazingly smooth, and surprisingly comfortable in soft-soled shoes, although the platform is a little small. they retail for around 100, which in my opinion, they are not at all worth, but if you can get a deal on them or make a trade like i was able to do, by all means, they're really amazing pedals.

i've tried a wide variety of toe straps, and the only ones i've been happy with are my toshi singles. i'm contemplating a set of doubles for when they go, but let's be honest here: i don't see that happening any time soon, the way they're made.

- replaceable cages
- sealed bearings
- solid spindle

They're not much more expensive than the royal nuevos, so it's worth the extra for the sealed goodness.

I mostly ride on my Speedplay X-5's. I love them. Easy to get into, I have never unintentionally unclipped, and they are not difficult to get out of. Walking with the cleats sucks though. That's the only drawback.

sylvan lites, mks clips on both bikes. salmo vinyl-coated singles in day-glo yellow on the pana, old ALE leathers on the roadie.

That is all.
Hence why I said "I know you didn't mean it like that."

Also, I like the candy's, but I think I'm going to switch to eggbeaters on the roadie for easier entrance/exit (and less grams, but who's counting?). The only reason I went with candys is so I could use street shoes on the little platforms for short rides, but now I have my fixie for that.
I ran both Candys and Eggbeaters and the Candys are way easier to get into. The little platform guides your foot in much faster.

I can clip in and out on command 95% of the time, but there's always that 5% of the time where you bomb out of a stop and your shoe slips on the clip.

Can Eggbeaters clip in "reverse"? Do you have any problems with them coming out accidentally?

Now that I have a spare pair of SIDIs sitting in the corner, I'm thinking of making the switch. Recommended?
I have used Candys for 18+ months and never unclipped accidently. They have enough float to protect your knees and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. I've also used Eggbeaters and the Candys are better.
