My ghetto fixie is my one bike without clipless pedals. I ride it around town, and make no point to go any slower than I would on my other bike.
I tried straps, but I couldn't get my feet and then couldn't get them out. Made me very nervous, since long-term trackstanding isn't one of my skills.
I don't think there's any danger with clipless and platforms as long as you have a brake. I'd wear shoes, though.

i probably rode just about 34 miles today, fixed, platformed, and brakeless, with a 48x16 and I definitely was never scared or out of control. though i must say I can totally see how using clips/straps can be helpful and will probably purchase some soon. I have been using a brake as long as I have ridden fixed and just took it off recently to see how well I could perform without it. again, not necessary but if i were in a pickle boy oh boy would i like to have that brake.
anyway, to say that riding fixed with platforms is completely nonsensical is simply your opinion, I happen to get along just fine along with big piles of other people.
blah blah blah

Case in point:
Take a regular road bike with both front and rear brakes. Attempt a maximum deceleration test with both front only and rear only brakes. Front brakes win every time. This is not refuteable.
This is why cars have larger rotors in the front wheels. Same with motocycles. It's a matter of physics - when stopping, forward weight transfer occurs.
To claim that one could stop better with rear brakes (let alone brakeless with a fixie) is foolish. Sure, you might be able to stop and be in control, but a brakeless fixed gear bicycle will never have the stopping power of a front brake equipped bike.

BTW, I have no interest in the bike you might have or whether or not you run brakes. Natural selection will take its course, as far as I am concerned. I just want to set the misinformation straight.

People are questioning whether it's safe to ride a fixed gear (especially a brakeless one) with platform pedals. An obvious statement about the relative stopping power of front and back brakes cut-and-pasted from another thread has nothing to do with whether platform pedals on a fixed gear are a good idea.
