Bikes: generic lugged track frame

inexpensive filet brazed frames?

I can't seem to find any anywhere. I'm just looking for something with a tight geometry and filet brazed instead of lugs... is that so much to ask for?

Brazed lugs = skilled labor

Fillet Brazed = even more skilled labor

You can get a Schwinn Varsity for about 10$ other than that you are SOL.

Define "inexpensive". What exactly is your ideal price and what size do you ride?

You can get a custom fillet brazed frame from Doug Curtis at www.curtlo.com for a pretty reasonable price (at least compared to the other tig'd options out there).

I went for a ride with this guy yesterday and his frames are very nice, but not inexpensive.

Bikes: generic lugged track frame

sorry if people think this is a joke. I'm looking for a new frame, and am not into the whole lugged look. if i was, i could easily pick up an old keirin frame for under 1000.

so yeah, i just want something that looks sort of plain, hence the filet brazing. I want something with geometry slightly tighter than my pista. it doesnt seem like it should be so much to ask for.

You can find an inexpensive tig'd steel frames. The Fuji track comes to mind (because one is in my garage).

Have you seen the trademark Cannondale weld? They TIG (or MIG, I don't know the difference) aluminum together like any other AL frame manufacturer today, but they sand down the weld by hand so the transitions look really smooth. More material is used in welding than brazing, so the "radius" between the tubes is larger, but it still looks plain.

They produce the "Capo" fixed gear bike, which I've been recommending to everyone because I got it.. like most entry-levels, the componentry is junk, but the frameset is quite nice and lightweight, replete with carbon fork.

Might not be what you're looking for, but it's worth a look.

Still waiting for an answer to my above question on your price and size.

same here, but not quiiiiite $400. although mine i got mine in absolutely pristine condition. yours wouldn't happen to be made by shi.tamori, would it? he's the only builder i know of doing filet brazed njs frames although i can only assume there's plenty of others.

oh, and pictures! or bring your bike the the summer slam series!

I must be missing something. I thought your orignal post was equating fillet brazed to electro forged. Reason for my posting of the link.

Well, since you don't seem to be getting too many actual answers ( ) I looked at those Curtlo frames, and that's a pretty sweet price for a custom bike. How much were you looking to spend? Below 1k? Also, I know it's frustrating sometimes, but have you checked out ebay or craigslist thoroughly? I would add one thing, being someone who specialized in making fillet brazed frames (about a decade ago!) not too many people do them anymore short of full custom. Man, I really should get myself some tanks and build a jig...I think I could build some bikes for some people here!!!!!

I think the geometry is more roadlike on the Capo if I recall correctly, and then you might just go for the Gunnar Street Dog if you want steel.

Then again a price limit would be helpful.
