Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Home-made handlebars

Some kinda moustache-bullhorn rust-copper thing.
I made it from chopped [rusty] bmx bars, a bmx leve, copper shims, and backward drop adapters for flat-bars.

It's on my 2nd fixed conversion, an '84 Centurion Dave Scott Ironman.

I think it looks great! It seems like that design could be comfortable.

Bicycle, you're going to get flamed for actually doing neat things and tinkering in your garage, but I think making new designs out of rusty old stuff is really neat. If you like them enough, commissioning someone with a pipe bender is cheap enough.

A maker isn't afraid to ride with rusty old stuff, hacked together. a+++

Heres the deal, in all seriousness.

These don't look to do anything bullhorns with a shorter stem on the same setup would do. In fact, they do less, because the 'flatbar' position is smaller.

Yes, but,

I made them myself

BUt the whole setup looks really sketch, let alone unsafe. I made my bullhorns myself by flip/chopping and they are still at least a solid piece of steel.

But, also, if it pumps you up man, good work. DIY is great, and so is self satisfaction. I've just (obviously) been ****ing around all night and people are babies on this board.

So can be tinkering with cars in your garage or building a prototype out of metal with power tools.

You hack things together as a prototype, usually in an unsafe matter, then pay someone to do it right.

i'd agree, except for maybe paying someone else to do it right.

If i were making something, i'd either commit to making a solid working piece myself, or just buying **** someone else already makes.

And it still stands that they are essentially a less functional bullhorn, and he was just happy that he made it himself. Fine with me if it i makes him happy, but there is no way it would make sense as a an actual product, or even make sense to pay someone else to build a "proper" one.

He even said himself that the charm was he did it himself, not that he made a mockup.
