Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: See my sig...

52:18 (road bike /commuter), 46:16&18 (tourer), 38:16 (mtb) and 52:18 (road bike)

The 52:18 is 77 gear inches, the 46:16 is 75 gear inches, the 46:18 is 66, and the 38:16 is 62 gear inches.

I prefer running the bigger chainring and cog combos on my road bikes as it makes for a very smooth, efficient, and long wearing drive.

Someone did a poll a while back on what gear inches people run. It made a very nice bell curve that peaked at 70-75 gi.

Common is for commoners, I only ride fixed gears with 1" pitch chains. That silly 1/2" x 1/8" will snap under my leather penny loafers.
