It's lame that there is all this hate directed at people who choose to use the fixed drivetrain as a stopping mechanism instead of a hand brake. Seriously. Besides, its clear to me that tall bikes should be banned from our roads. These idiots are the real danger.

doing the double chain setup would be a form of redundancy, but there is still the traction limitations of only using the back wheel.
SS with just one brake is equally lame.

That logic is weak. A car is not a bicycle. And besides what is the redundancy for a when your handbrake fails?
#61
Um, the rest of the system? It's not likely that brake or chain will fail. But it does happen. However, it's nearly impossible that both will fail at the same time.
Modern cars are actually doubly redundant - there are two cylinders for power brakes, each connected to the brakes on two wheels. If one cylinder fails, you can still stop reliably with the other. If both fail, then you still have a parking brake.

There is no valid argument to justify riding a fixie in public without a front brake.

you should be ticketed for your spelling, and it should be expensive too...and i don't have brakes on my bike because that's how darthvader rolls (and stops).
#64
so maybe it comes down to the operator themselves, not whether or not brakes or no brakes, because grabbing a hand full of brake is not the only way to handle emergency situations.

I have found that the only way to get out of these tickets is to recite the entirety of "**** tha Police" by NWA. The officer will be so impressed that he will let you get off scott free
for example:
Oficer: hello sir, it seems as if your bike doesn't have any brakes. That, my friend, is illegal; I am going to have to write you a ticket:
You:**** tha police
Comin straight from the underground
Young ***** got it bad cuz I'm brown
And not the other color so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority
**** that ****, cuz I ain't tha one
For a punk mutha****a with a badge and a gun
To be beatin on, and throwin in jail
We could go toe to toe in the middle of a cell
****in with me cuz I'm a teenager
With a little bit of gold and a pager
Searchin my car, lookin for the product
Thinkin every ***** is sellin narcotics
You'd rather see me in the pen
Then me and Lorenzo rollin in the Benzo
Beat tha police outta shape
And when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape
To tape off the scene of the slaughter
Still can't swallow bread and water
I don't know if they **** or what
Search a ***** down and grabbin his nuts
And on the other hand, without a gun they can't get none
But don't let it be a black and a white one
Cuz they slam ya down to the street top
Black police showin out for the white cop
Ice Cube will swarm
On any mutha****a in a blue uniform
Just cuz I'm from the CPT, punk police are afraid of me
A young ***** on a warpath
And when I'm finished, it's gonna be a bloodbath
Of cops, dyin in LA
Yo Dre, I got somethin to say
**** the police
Officer: Damn! your rhymenocology is impressive. Please, continue riding brakeless

now that you got me thinking, i've been almost hit by more than a couple cyclists all of which had brakes. its usually by their doing stupid stuff like rolling through stop signs, merging from off the sidewalk, or some other form of stupidity.
so maybe it comes down to the operator themselves, not whether or not brakes or no brakes, because grabbing a hand full of brake is not the only way to handle emergency situations.

it makes portland seem like heaven.

I don't always feel like using full spelling, i mean we are online...And besides that is just pure stupidity not riding with brakes because you put your life in danger and others including other bikers. That kind of stuff helps raise health insurances for other people because of your negligence

I see this in Gainesville all the time too. Its frustrating how dangerous casual riders can be from just not knowing any better or being lazy. Luckily people on busted-ass MTB's tend to go pretty slow, somewhat diminishing the danger of ****ty brakes.

having been on this forum for a few years now, i love watching people's fairly rapid transition from brazen enthusiasm to jaded conservatism. it's like when idealistic political activists turn into armchair republicans after they become disillusioned. it cracks me up. some day i hope to be crippled up in a wheelchair after my knees blow out yelling at "whipper snappers" to put on brakes and stop running red lights.

Yeah, I was riding today and some asswipe on a ss stopped short in front of me, so I skidded but I still couldn't stop in time to avoid hitting him. (I was a little banged up, but it's cool cuz my bike is fine.) I think we'd be a lot better off without brakes -- there's a reason brakes ain't allowed on the track. And I do ride a track bike, after all.
Plus, lotsa people out there die from heart attacks every day, and even with brakes on their bikes, these people will still die. Think about it. Seriously.

Not 100% sure but I think life might be dangerous. Checked by birth certificate and could not find any guarantees. https://www.theonion.com/content/node/39236
