Half Chain Link?

Half Chain Link?
I am working on a single speed conversion on my old trash picked bike. The derailur(sp?) didn't "come with the bike" so I was wondering what I could do with it. I took everything off except the breaks and decided to make it a single speed. I took a good amount of chain links off and it is in between gears. It is on the large cog in the front but on the back when I put it on one gear the chain is too big and falls off but when I move it to one gear bigger the chain is too small and doesn't allow the wheel to sit all the way in. I was wondering if they made such a thing as a half chain link.

I would try to get a derailer to use as a tensioner probably the cheapest way & a good way to see what gear you like. Use a cable to hold it in position so it won’t derail the chain. There is no shortage of info on this, so if this doesn’t help look around.

There's also a brand called Reluctant that makes that exactly same half-link chain, as pictured above. I can confirm that it looks good (ahem! yeah, I have in on my Raleigh-conversion) and it is supposed to be super-strong too. I bought it from some Ebay-seller.
However, when still new it seems to stretch quite a bit. I actually had to cut two more links off after riding with it for couple of weeks. But probably the larger number of chain links causes proportionally more stretching of a new chain, I guess. And it's not noisy at all, at least on my set-up.

If you're still using the multispeed freewheel then you need a 3/32" width chain. I think full half-link chains are only available as 1/8" width. However, individual half-links for 3/32" are available but not as common. If you go to a specialty BMX shop, they may not have 3/32", check before you buy.
