Looking at eBay (and not factoring in shipping) $300 is the going price for a 2007 Fuji Track. So yeah, at this point, $300 is definitely too much for a two year old bike with known issues.

This BS owner told me he paid $275, and 300 was his way of making a buck, sound right? What are the known issues? And is this bike really two years old?

if it fits then i say jump on it.
fwiw, i bought a used 2001 fuji track from a friend for $300 a couple weeks ago. it was in really great shape and came with a few minor upgrades (headset, handlebars, cog). i've been really happy with it so far (been riding it for about six weeks now) and the ketchup and mustard paint job melts my face. call me a sucker if you like.

See if you can get him to toss in a DA cog and lockring for the same price.
FWIW, I paid $400 for mine but sold the back wheel and tires (but no cog/lockring) for $90 on CL. As said, if the bike fits, go for it.

He may have paid $275 for it, He may have paid less. He very likely kept a reasonable deposit from the original purchaser. Really though none of that matters. He is stuck with a bike that won't move. It's taking up floor space and money that could be used elsewhere and we're entering a season where not many adult bikes are going to sell. It's very likely that he would rather have $250 of cold hard cash then a giant '06 fuji track. If not so be it. $300s not a great deal.
Bike years are like car years. He's currently getting '08s.

Well I talked with the guy, he's giving me 325 for the bike and DA lockring and cog. Here the issue with my previous conversion. I brought it in the shop becasue the cog was slipping. Turns out the hub is stripped, so now it's basicly worth it for the rims alone. I think I'm going to be happy with the purchase. The conversion was a bit small and two bikes are better than one car. Ha
