Track Bikes
Hey, I am looking to get a fixed gear Track bike for fun. I live in Portland Oregon and lots of people ride fixes, and some ride Track. I was talking to a kid in my anthropology class about Track bikes and they sound fun to ride! He told me a few complete bikes to look at, but I can't find them on the web. Any suggestions for track bikes? My price range is from anything to 450 or 500.
Thanks for the help, Mitch.

aight so it seems like finding a bike with true track geometry vs relaxed road geometry isnt a huge priority. since budget is the big factor, i'd check out the mercier kilo tt at bikesdirect.com first, to see what you think. its a fine frame, with entry level components, but its super cheap. no break either, which you seem to like, but i still recommend slapping one on for emergencies. that will run you $400 total, well within your budget. for comparison, see the fuji track, windsor the hour, and khs flite for low-budget alternatives.

Whatever you do, don't get a fixie. It will ruin your life. Your other bikes will break and die, your dog will run away, your girlfriend will leave you (for a messenger) and you'll lose your job (or quit school).

meh. he knows his **** but he can be a real *******. humangirl has had some shoddy work done there because he left some stuff half-done to do something else. when she got a frame and had a headset put in, it was the most worthless installation i've ever seen...if i remember, jen talked him into it so we could just get it done then and be on our way, but he was in the middle of something, got grumpy, threw **** on there, didn't put on all the parts (or even give us those parts), install the star nut or do anything. we just paid another shop to do it all the way, or as much as we could after we realized we didn't have the full headset.
other than that....that shop can be great.

He is in the process of making one for me at the moment and should be ready in about 2 weeks. Jen got me into wanting to race this summer, so that will be interesting.
He was nice to me and all, and I have herd his quality is great, so thats good enough for me.
