Good catch...one-and-the-same.....Rob at Dolce Velo did a great job putting the bike back together after getting the powder-coat (used to be grey/black) and some back/forth on what parts to use.

I recommend Dolce Velo if in the California bay-area and looking to update your oldie.

are you kidding? An IRO vs. a vintage raliegh track frame.....which is more fun? thats an easy question.

I know your myspace through a friend of mine's myspace in richmond, I just thought it was funny how small the world is.

you are absolutely right, the iro just looked so tough and capable, I was just imagining bombing around on it. I would be much more careful with the raliegh and careful tends to work against fun in my book. I don't know, im drunk...the relatives are here.

time bandit 11-22-07 03:25 PM

^haha, yeah, i didnt take the "i dont wanna break this thing" factor into account. Point taken.

+1 on being drunk around relatives. we have thanksgiving lunch, and my buzz is just wearing off.

El-ahrairah 11-22-07 03:26 PM

also I am building another 0$ bike around yet another schwinn sprint, Ill probably give it away when Im done but god I love doing this, I found the chainring side of a sugino with a broken axle stuck inside it yesterday.. ahhhh...

The inevitable "the bass from my massive boombox threw off the handling of my bike and I bailed!" thread would be worth it, just to know that such a thing could happen. Then we could all go to Dutret's memorial service after his head explodes.

Also, I found this in my Google Images search:

Here's some pics of a pre-'73 Sekine single speed I just got done building for a friend (he's not ready for fixed yet!). Paint is Sherwin-Williams Polane polyurathane enamel (6 parts color to 1 part activator). Color is called Dunes Tan but my friend's wife calls it "skin color". The Naked Bike!

Wheels are Mavic Red Label with Dura-Ace hubs. New UN 54 BB. Brake calipers and levers are NOS Shimano 600. Rear caliper is a short-reach so we made a "drop-bolt" which we machined and glass-beaded along with the rather long headset spacer. H/bar is a Cinelli 64 with a 1A stem. NOS chrome fork and Kalloy one-bolt seatpost are new, too. Not shown is the stainless steel bolt holding the caliper to the fork. The bolt is a 1/4-20tpi which we drilled and tapped an M6 metric thread through the middle of it for the caliper (this caliper required a recess bolt and the fork is an older model and, well, this is getting too hard to explain!).

This project turrned out to be alot of work but I don't think it ended up too bad!

wearyourtruth 11-23-07 11:20 PM

^ that is one serious headset spacer

you look like you spent some serious time on it... why not cut down/rethread the fork?

The guy who I built this bike for has chronic back problems (he's had surgery a few years ago) and he doesn't want to lean down too far but still wanted drop bars.
