I don't know much about singleators, but aren't they usually applied inside of the chainline?

1. That is not a singleator. The Singleator is a SS chain tensioner made by Surly. That is a DMR STS chain tensioner.
2. Chain tensioners work better when they are set up in the "push-up" mode like this one. It provides more chain wrap around the cog, and thus prevents chain derailments.

That is actually a On One another doofer tensioner, deanodized and polished. Works very well and is dirt cheap. What do you think, should I try and paint the pulley wheel black so the bike is completely colour coordinated, or would that be anal retentive?
