It's not much so don't laugh. This is my first SS bike. Just picked it up yesterday. Decided to take off the track bars and put some flats on it. Will have to do until I can install some risers.

sure you've read b4, but you should really stop barspinning or doing any kind of front wheel impacting tricks on that wheel
|
With the kind of money he is blowing on his bike, I would say it doesnt matter to him.
|
Already on my "To Do" list! They do look sort of silly b/c they are a bit too long. A quick spin up and down the block confirmed that I like the flats better than the track bars...so just a quick chop of the ends should take care of the issue.

seems alright to me but i'd chop a few inches off of those bars to narrow them down some.

I hate everything about that Leader.

Cross post from C&V.
There was a swap meet this morning at the bike shop where I work. I looked around and chose to get this one. The guy who sold it to me didn't really tell me anything about it, but whatever. It was only $35. Tomorrow it's getting new tires and tubes, as well as a truing and tensioning of the wheels. The brakes don't work very well and I have a feeling that it'll be hard finding replacements. I may make it a fixed gear instead of a single speed and just lose the brakes all together. There was a broken generator light on the front, which I took off and tossed. Overall, I think it was well worth the $35 it cost me. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3281/...a447090b_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3051/...3f7ea06e_b.jpg Comments welcome. |

I bought this months ago and its been lying around because I was unable to find the right sized tyres for it (they are 830s). Finally put it together yesterday and I'm amazed how well it rides, considering its nearly 60 years old. It is an australian made speedwell, and I'm not sure what the rack is.
The pedals are only temporary, and it has a flip flop hub on the rear which is currently on the freewheel side as I got the brakes to 'work'. I can only ever load thumbnails this forum must be different to the 7 others that I go to. |

marqueemoon - what seatpost is that? Build looks great.
Oh, and the pedals are some old Shimano 500-something SPDs from the parts bin. The toe overlap on this bike is kind of insane, so I will probably not be doing clips and straps. To answer the frame question, it's a Spicer (aka KHS Flite 100). It's a 57, which has a 57.5 top tube. Thanks for the comments, everyone. I'm a little surprised such a relatively boring bike got so much feedback. |

^^Sick saddle...Amazing!

mr23779-think twice about chopping your bars shorter. a little length is good for climbing and powering and allows you to breathe better as it keeps you chest cavity from being constricted. there are really no performance advantages to real short bars.
|
Good thinking! Hadn't thought of that.

Let's hear it for old folding Bianchis!
http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/9265/folderci0.jpg My generator works and it came with the little seat bag with plenty of tools for adjustments. Sadly it is a little small for someone who is 6'1". But it is still a blast to ride around and you get lots of comments about it. |

Are those stock clips? Mine were the first thing to go! The lack of any grip on the pedal caused me to slip a pedal and crash :( Do you have the problem of them folding down and being really hard to get into?

I like the two little folders. $35 is a good deal for the red one.
