seems alright to me but i'd chop a few inches off of those bars to narrow them down some.

sure you've read b4, but you should really stop barspinning or doing any kind of front wheel impacting tricks on that wheel

Glevan 06-08-08 09:18 PM

With the kind of money he is blowing on his bike, I would say it doesnt matter to him.

Mr23779 06-08-08 09:19 PM

Already on my "To Do" list! They do look sort of silly b/c they are a bit too long. A quick spin up and down the block confirmed that I like the flats better than the track bars...so just a quick chop of the ends should take care of the issue.

I hate everything about that Leader.

Cross post from C&V.

There was a swap meet this morning at the bike shop where I work. I looked around and chose to get this one. The guy who sold it to me didn't really tell me anything about it, but whatever. It was only $35. Tomorrow it's getting new tires and tubes, as well as a truing and tensioning of the wheels. The brakes don't work very well and I have a feeling that it'll be hard finding replacements. I may make it a fixed gear instead of a single speed and just lose the brakes all together.

There was a broken generator light on the front, which I took off and tossed. Overall, I think it was well worth the $35 it cost me.

I bought this months ago and its been lying around because I was unable to find the right sized tyres for it (they are 830s). Finally put it together yesterday and I'm amazed how well it rides, considering its nearly 60 years old. It is an australian made speedwell, and I'm not sure what the rack is.
The pedals are only temporary, and it has a flip flop hub on the rear which is currently on the freewheel side as I got the brakes to 'work'.

I can only ever load thumbnails this forum must be different to the 7 others that I go to.

marqueemoon - what seatpost is that? Build looks great.

The seatpost is a NOS Suntour XC mountain post I got on ebay. It was the most appealing double bolt option I could find in 26.8 that had any kind of decent setback. It's really a thing of beauty.

Oh, and the pedals are some old Shimano 500-something SPDs from the parts bin. The toe overlap on this bike is kind of insane, so I will probably not be doing clips and straps.

To answer the frame question, it's a Spicer (aka KHS Flite 100). It's a 57, which has a 57.5 top tube.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I'm a little surprised such a relatively boring bike got so much feedback.

I've got a big red crate for it, I just couldn't find the bungee cords.

mr23779-think twice about chopping your bars shorter. a little length is good for climbing and powering and allows you to breathe better as it keeps you chest cavity from being constricted. there are really no performance advantages to real short bars.

Mr23779 06-09-08 08:48 AM

Good thinking! Hadn't thought of that.

Let's hear it for old folding Bianchis!
http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/9265/folderci0.jpg
My generator works and it came with the little seat bag with plenty of tools for adjustments.
Sadly it is a little small for someone who is 6'1". But it is still a blast to ride around and you get lots of comments about it.

really cool sticker, well made from isticker on ebay.

I moved the pump bc it would bother my legs when I was standing over the bike. It's actually off the bike now completely. I'll put it back on if/when I do long trips, but I've only been riding around my area lately (no more than 4 miles away). The cranks are the stock FSA Vero crankset, looks blue bc of the sunlight coming from the doorway.

BTW, your bike looks awesome! Gumwall tires would set it off!!!!

Those are the stock clips. I was hating them at first, but I've gotten used to them. I removed the reflector and it allows me to kick the little tab and slip right in. I can do it without looking on my left foot, still havent gotten it down packed with my right foot. On my right foot I ended up stepping on the clip often, I have to ride real slow and focus on getting in... that's why I normally start w/ my right foot in the clip first. hehe

I like the two little folders. $35 is a good deal for the red one.
