Ok. So here it is. The 1960's Frejus
The guy I got it from had it for over 25 years and the most he did with it was have it painted red (from chrome) because he didn't want it to be flashy. No dents, and the only scratches are in the paint which did not dig into the chrome. Some of the paint just flakes off showing the shiny chrome. Other than being dirty from sitting in his garage for 15 years this thing is a beaut! I have plans of removing the red paint, having it re-chromed, and putting the original decals back on it. Here's the rundown of what it's got. 1960s Frejus 54cm Track frame Headset: campy Record Stem: Ambrosic Champion Bars: Old Steel NJS bars (taped and in great shape, he said the bars around about 20 years old) Cranks: Superbe 165 cranks Pedals: Superbe custom with Christophe cages Bottom Bracket: Campy Record Wheelset: Campy HF Record Hubs mounted to Super Champion Comp. tubular rims ALSO: It came with a STILL WORKING Campy Impero hand pump! When I strip it down I will be able to read the SN. Enjoy the pics. I will post more when I clean the past 15 years of gunk off. Oh yeah, I need to re-glue the rear tire since it's been sitting forever. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../frejus010.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../frejus009.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../frejus006.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../frejus005.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../frejus004.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../frejus003.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../frejus002.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../frejus001.jpg |

I have a strong suspicion that the original chrome finish is in very good condition. After you strip it, buy yourself some chrome polish and go nuts.
|
^ i would also like to add that the chroming process is about one of the worst practices around, environmentally speaking. don't know if you care about that sorta thing, just puttin it out there...
p.s. red isn't flashy? :D i know it was his doing and not yours, but really.. |
looks amazing. please just take off the frame pump, raise the saddle and restore all of the parts on there.

my new SS beater, built from a conglomeration of spare parts from home and the local co-op. i love the 700x42 tires, they take bumps in the road like it's nothing (i'm used to riding 23's most of the time). parts are nothing of note, it's a bike, i pedal it.

After searching for quite some time for a 9t inch pitch cog and a newer wheelset, my 1950's Higgins [not JC Higgins] is finally road / track worthy.
Recently I bought a set of 32h x 40h Risilion Hubs laced to Mavic MA4 rims [clincher box section - polished] after I put Vredestein Fortezzas on the wheels they looked identical to my Bailey to Mavic tubular wheels that came with the bike. The only noticeable difference is the spokes are modern and they aren't tied and soldered. I also came across some Titan track bars to replace the GB road bars it came with. Once I trim up the Brooks narrow and remove the bag loops I can replace the 40 year old Brooks that's on it now. I love the wingnut track nuts and the crazy pencil seatstays. The bike is Reynolds 531 and dates from the early - mid 50s. It was originally purple until it was purchased in the late 50's by a track racer by the name of Don "Cookie" Miller in PA from Higgins while he was visiting the UK. It was raced in Pennsylvania and won many races until Miller retired in the 70's. Once the Classic Rendezvous crew throws their classic track day, I'll be racing it at Kissena! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3047/...cb62a69d_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3248/...a2afabee_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3169/...29da92c4_b.jpg |
Went out for a ride today and then snapped some new pics. It was a really nice day here in Michigan with low hummidity which was a relief. Enjoy:

^ that seat angle must make your arms tired... like holding a pushup midway the entire time you ride around. have you tried leveling it out?
|
normally it's flat. it had loosened up during my ride and i had to fix it but took pics first.

Or is it just a silly appearance thing? |
My favourite ride. Goal was to get the bike under 15lbs and got it just under 14lbs with pedals.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2241/...0a08dccc_o.jpg this is what happens to me when I get bored. I took my old SE racing OM flyer(the worst year ever of them but it was a gift) and throw on some deeepVs messed with the chainline pedals and toe straps and BAM! OM fixed. it reminds me of a mini BMX racer with 3/8 wheels on it. kind of funny, cool for cruising, with it didn't have all the cable braze ons and such |
looks fun

Ok here's my new Bareknuckle build. I almost decided not to post it here because I know there will be a lot of people who don't like it or think it's "tarcky" but just know that I was intenionally going for an 80's BMX style and I could personally care less what the haters think of it. I know it is flashy, that's what I was going for. Yes it has risers and a TT pad. Yes it has purple Velocitys. I realize that the grips are a shade or hue off from the wheels but I'm working on that. I know keeping the white tires and saddle clean is going to be an exercise in futillity but I wanted them to complete my color combo. Before you talk sh*t, I realize it isn't what someone who values "classy" bikes might want but it's what I wanted, so bearing that in mind, please keep your negative opinions to a dull roar. I love how it turned out. It now sports a silver Thomson seatpost and silver Kore Lite stem. Soon to have a better headset. Rides like a champ. Drives buttery smooth.
For the spec-wh*res: 54cm EAI Bareknuckle purple Velocitys/ Formula 32H hubs Dura-Ace (older square taper, 130bcd type) cranks, chainring (46t currently) Phil 16t cog/ lockring (in use) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...d/100_5382.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...d/100_5389.jpg Surly 19t cog/ Dura-Ace lockring (on flip side for trick gearing) Nitto 259AA 50cm risers/ purple Ourys white Nashbar saddle silver Thomson 250mm seatpost (Kalloy pictured) silver Kore Lite 100mm stem (Kogswell pictured) MKS GR9 pedals/ MKS clips/ Campy straps (white) white Vittoria Rubino Pro tires |
^sick, sick color scheme, i love it.
