it's a totally sweet concept bike. no mortal has ridden it (i asked the builder). i had my hands all over this bike at NAHBS, i really wanted to take it for a spin but the tires were not inflated...

Love the colour on the Nishiki. I'm not a big fan of conversions, but this one just simply looks great.

Thanks! The Nishiki is a great bike; a real utility ride, beer runs etc. The Fuji (the white one) is what i ride to work almost everyday, about 20 miles round trip. Gotta love climbing hills with 52/18 gearing!

project bike

i swapped the saddle and wheels off the paramount to the khs, because they're better than what came on it. the paramount is a work in progress and will be an ongoing project for some time...

Doing 180s and riding as usual. Landed a pretty big 180 and felt a pop. Did another and as I was riding fakie, the frame felt "limp". Got off the bike. Examined it. Nothing... Stepped on the non-drive side pedal and SNAP.

My Large BMW Gangsta Track is getting painted this week. So I guess it's afternoon park laps for me. No tricks for a few days...

johnprolly 08-27-08 09:32 PM

my theory is the BMW fork was stronger than the frame. The Surly forks snap really easily from 180s and I think introducing that beefy beast just transferred the load to the weakest adjacent connection. At least I wasn't in traffic or bombing the bridge.

Suttree 08-27-08 09:41 PM

Now I want a gangsta. I don't like or dislike
the way it looks but the durability is hard to argue with.

Sad. But I'm glad I got rid of my steamroller in favor of a new Bareknuckle frame. I've noticed a difference in the stiffness of the two frames and the Surly is definitely noodley.

patrickgh 08-27-08 09:43 PM

I figured I'd repost my bike, as it is "complete" til I make the move to clipless pedals. I've ditched the stock saddle for a specialized one that I picked up in the bargain bin at my lbs, and got some Nashbar Pursuit bars.. with tarcky-ish obnoxious tape

(Once again, forgive my ****ty cell phone picture, as my camera = MIA)

what do you think about the horizontal front end taking on so much pressure?
surely it would be a limited lifespan thing?

Quite the badass purchase, I'd say. :D
