he said it was a mockup. unless he rides without a headset as well? i mean, the guy's style is questionable, but i don't think he's that dumb.

Sinn 09-13-08 02:59 PM

Yeah, quiet cranking, gritty steering. No worries about chain tension here.

What I said was totally tongue-in-cheek, by the way.

My landshark back from the dead! Just got it back from John Slawta with a new seat tube and a fresh paint job. Stiffer than a high school junior at prom.
Merckx 6 day track bike. This is my work horse. Loved more and ridden harder than your Iro.
Two very nice bikes. So you're a fan of the Open Pros eh?

Someday you should restore that Merckx to original beauty. That'd be sweet.

iloveboston 09-13-08 05:45 PM

i do like the open pros. they hold up rather well. i figure when the shark starts to get beat i may retire the merckx and restore it, but until then it will be my daily ride.

The Copper/root-beer Kestrel EMS/Ti fork totally matches the Honey-Brown Brooks!!

Don't go Tarck-Hating on the MTB pedals, they're 4-Ti and they're FLY!!

Tensile $100 freewheel...ouch! Missing a brake, (Yes, it will have a Zero G or a Campy Record Ti schtopper.) And I seem to have no real choice but to spring for a King Ti 1" Grip-nut headset. Anything less would be unworthy!

I still don't think it's a full-Ti GT. . .Prove me wrong or right.

ti is pretty soft. seems impractical for a track frame.

Time and money. . .

I can't find a proper brake, so as soon as the Ti steerer is threaded, and I pull the MasterCard trigger on the KingTi headset, I'll take it to Piccolo Velodrome. Once I have a brake it'll live on the freewheel and see many hundreds of 2-fer Monday and 2Taco-Tuesday miles around Ft Lauderdale!! (Also perhaps an occasional 3am Friday last-call run from Plantation to the beach!!)

I have Orange Lizard Skinz grips...Lame, but they match.

ELMO

You sure there is enough wall thickness for threading? Why do not you want any of the 1" Ti stems like Cinelli Grammo or Morati? They are showing up frequently on eBay.

yea its tough to be motivated to wipe down your ride after working in the rain, sleet, or snow for 9 or so hours ya know? kinda just want to shower and self medicate with some beers.

the rear wheel is in dire need of a rebuild. ill get around to it someday

iloveboston 09-14-08 09:28 AM

gyesswho, i absolutely love that new build

at the very least paint over where the paint has chipped off. that bike is too awesome to die!

these are some of my favorite tires. i don't ever ride cross, but they are great for commuting when you have a mix of pavement and dirt/grass/gravel. is there a reason you have your rear tire reversed?

Yeah they are a pretty great combo. I have a double fixed hub with a 17 and 19t on it. My current gearing is the 49/17 combo which is for the streets. When I flip it it over to the lower gearing with proper tread direction, it will be better for torque when I ride on dirt/grass (I want to mess around with it in the trails of New Rochelle). On the streets if I were to skip a bit, it wouldn't burn off as much rubber in the opposite direction (think of it like shaving in the direction of your hair follicles) compared to the proper direction of the tire
