They are kind of necessary considering the conditions we face. I'll be commuting(~1mi) all winter and because of my hours i'll probably have to ride on un-plowed roads.

I have a set of truvativ riser bars that I'm installing later, just got tired of waiting for my mailorder stem. The chainrings are riveted on, I'm thinking of grinding the teeth on the outer ring down and letting it serve as a bashguard.

i've put the bareknucke to rest for the winter. this is my new winter alleycat losing machine. thanks to christian (i have no idea what ur last name is ) for the deep v's. some cat from long island who over charged me for a used iro frame, chris headset and a carbon fork but he was nice enough to throw in a black stem. i just added the back fender b/c this rain is not going to keep me indoors.
and if anyone knows the whereabouts of my handlebar tape from the left side, please let me know. who the hell steals handlebar tape, and only one side for that matter

Kids would SFalize unicycles if they were popular.

Here's my highly budget conversion. 1984 Peugeot, ghetto chainring spacers (hard enough to find a French-thread BB, let alone a narrow one), suicide surly cog on Campy hub to replace the stock heliomatic. Morgantown WV is definitely not a good place for fixies, so this is essentially a rail trail bike for now (hence suicide hub and only one brake). I'd planned on using it to get to class, but ended up getting an apartment on top of a mountain.

Loving the feel of riding fixed - played around in the gravel parking lot outside to get the feel for skids tonight; amazing sensation. Once I have some more money, I plan on rebuilding the rear wheel (again) with a track hub, get a new, narrower BB and some 165 cranks.

Also, just to note how ghetto the bike is, notice how the seat post is held in place. The (brilliant) design of the frame included threads brazed onto the seat tube, so a bolt could push into the side of the post and hold it in place (also tearing up the post). While building it the threads broke off - didn't strip, just broke off. So I've drilled a hole in the seat post and shoved a bolt into it. I can't lift the bike by the seatpost, and the nose of the saddle easily wiggles half and inch left and right. Gotta love French engineering.

Great Majikman. Seatpost thing sounds dangerous as ****, but whatever you're into.

You need to find an expanding wedge seatpost. That seatpost setup is an accident waiting to happen.
