jimbob, night in the hospital, some busted teeth, road rash on my knees, bent frame, and 2 trashed wheels. im okay tho. its been about 2 months. hit and run driver. GRR. ive posted about it before so i wont bore everyone with the story again :)

Hey, here is my bike:
57 cm 1972 international bicycle corporation/Garlatti. Ritchey aero road wheels, Suzue jr hubs, Sugino gt cranks, 42/15, cinelli bar and stem.

That is a very nice looking bike, dissemination. Seriously. I really like it. Very clean. Watch out for those Suzue Jrs, though.

i'm pretty sure a skilled mechanic should be able to true that right up for you

128, how'd you get the cog and lockring off?

By car you mean landmine right? That is the gnarliest wheel-smash I have ever seen, did you sustain any damage yourself? I really should think of wearing a helmet, pics like this remind me of how nutty street-riding can be.

Damn I wish I could have taken that wheel into the lighting studio for some pics, that is a beautiful mess.

edit: I would hazzard a guess that a vice was involved in getting the cog and lockring off.

hah. felt like a landmine, thats for sure. i dont remember a lot about the accident. I was commign down a hill and turned right to join the flow of traffic, went wide to avoid bad roads/potholes on the right hand side and got creamed by a speeding driver. according to my friends who were about 2 blocks behind me I was thrown about 15-20 feet. The driver got out of his car to see I was alive and then ran off before the cops showed up. I had severe road rash on my knees to the point where I couldnt walk normally for about 4-5 weeks, fractued my upper jaw, knocked out one tooth, chipped another, and twisted a third. I also had some road rash on my chin. its been a bit of a nighmare. I was not wearing a helmet, and did hit my head but fortunately my bag cushioned most of it and i only had a small cut behind my left ear. I am fine, but i do not ride w/o a helmet anymore, that is for sure. but its been two months and I am back on a bike, and riding daily. I am a lifer, in terms of bikes. I have never owned a car (i am turning 24 in a few days), nor have I ever had a license, and I dont really want to either. life is slowly returning back to normal, i am repairing my frame and that bike will be back better than it was before. good will of friends and the bike community here in sf has kept me going and i appreciate them to no end. i would not have been able to get through it without them. i have much love and respect for the friends i have made in san francisco through cycling.

oh and yes, a vice was involved.

build it all up with superbe pro components or all dura ace. nitto stem, bars, seat post and what ever rims you like.

why? because it is fashionable? why not build it up reasonably until you find out whether or not you want to ride fixed in the street.

Allow new people time to assimilate before you inundate them with what is deemed "cool." Durability is more important than Dura-Ace at this stage.

That is not a winter project...that is an Ebay project and then you can go buy something nice like a Chesini or somethin.

Yikes. That 3rensho is quite the starter frame. Well, im hoping since you're in kyoto you didnt have to pay close to what they go for in the us/ebay! there are some pictures of my old 3rensho here: http://flickr.com/photos/onetwentyei...7594090343546/ which may provide you some inspiration, but if i were you id go more inexpensive components to start till you figure out what you like. good luck, and ride safe. kyoto is one of the coolest places ive ever been and ridden in, and i am very jealous you get to live there.

What frame is this? Looks nice, the chromed rear triangle is schweeet. Do you have a closeup of the seat cluster?
