I've seen that frame before I think. There was something similar in SF awhile ago with the same type of paint job. It was from New Zealand builder I think? Maybe that's not the same bike. I know the Japanese builders love the fade paint job. Do tell. Looks cool.

Allow new people time to assimilate before you inundate them with what is deemed "cool." Durability is more important than Dura-Ace at this stage.

You & you're bi-curious friend from L.A. are so jealous.

But I can bet Japanese guy didn't have to sink to such depravity (ie: bukkake) to acquire one.

I am not hounding anyone. Although it seems you like to hound a lot of things I say.
I didn't know Superbe was fashionable, but I did know that they made really nice track products. He asked how he should build it up and I gave him a suggestion. I wasn't trying to make him "cool".

The photo of my (almost) new 3Rensho frame was taken in the old 3Rensho shop which is now the Makino shop. Makino-san had this 58 cm frame just sitting there until a bikeshop owner in Kyoto (who used to be the 3Rensho shop manager) called for me. I couldn't believe it and now it's sitting in my room! I almost bought a road version in this color 20 years ago.

Funny you should mention that - I was just about to get myself an IRO Rob Roy when someone on the forum offered me a 3Rensho instead.

No joke.

haha

how awesome. did you buy it and scrape off the decals?
;)
(I almost picked up a Rob Roy, but wasn't willing to make the move to 130/135 spaced hubs since my stuffis 120...I went with the Il Pompino)

I went with the 3Rensho. It's funny, even though it's got cantilevers, the frame is still pretty limited in terms of clearance. I have to deflate my 700x27 Ruffy Tuffys just to get the rear wheel past the seat tube. Decals were, um, pre-scraped.

I've given up on standards. In the house right now, I've got rear wheels spaced at 110, 120, 126, 130, and 135, laced to 24", 26" (559), 26" (571), 700c and nominal 29" rims.

Don't even talk to me about the spare tube or tire piles.

I'm afraid it's pretty much 'hermit with **** all over the place' at this point.

I still can't thank sashae-framebank enough for hooking this bike up. It's the first one I reach for, usually.

How's the Pompino coming - ready for its close-up yet?

gbarchus 11-08-06 09:35 PM

Excuse my newbie ignorance or lack of humor, but why scrape the decals?

i dont, but ive heard from people here and elsewhere that it makes a cleaner looking bike. or you could be refusing to give the maker of your frame the luxury of getting free advertising from you. just another way to stick it to the man:p

Theft prevention? Tight bikes, all of you, it has been a good couple of days of sweet rides in this thread.
