Here's my Puch Bergmiester, it's on fixedgeargallery #582 but I took this pic with a better camera instead of a disposable one.

No problems to speak of, thus far. With the particular Dupli-Color paint I used, you really need to let it cure for 5 days or so for it to harden properly, so putting on a few coats and riding it a few hours later really isn't advisable with this stuff. Still, much better than anything Krylon, and probably at least as durable as the original Basso paint (granted, this doesn't say much since it's another one of those great Italian frames with a crappy paint job).

What kind of bars are those and where did you get them. Ive been lookin for a set of TT bars that i like and not havin any luck at all. Thats a pretty killer bike you got there.

If you paste it in unicode, and EVERYONE MAKES SURE THEIR ENCODING IS SET TO UNICODE, LIKE IT SHOULD BE, everyone should be able to read it.

I don't understand why everything isn't set to unicode.

It's an old Raleigh Capri, circa early 80's if I had to guess. I think it has a pretty classy look too. My g/f does like it, though she's a little shaky on it since she hasn't ridin' a bike in about 10 years.

Nice job, TheDL. And double-kudos for the matching bar tape and breast cancer awareness bottle. That bash guard is the toothiest pantleg-saver I've seen in a while, though. :D

Thanks for the kind words. The main purpose for me putting the bash gaurd on there was to save her pant legs from grease but now that you mention it...I can see how it may grap a pant leg though...hmmm.....

Nah, those are cheap slicks, City ST/K tires from Performance. She's really a budget machine. The only things "noteable" on her might be the MA40 rims laced to Shimano 600 hub/freewheel and the Terry saddle.

Ever realize you have enough stuff lying around to make another bike?

This may look like a fixie, it's not. It was a Centurion road bike frame. I ground off the derailleur hanger, the cable fittings, the fender eyelets etc. Sprayed it with spray paint cans.

It is a single speed coaster brake hub laced to a decent quality 700c rim with good spokes, that almost matches (if you don't look too close) the open pro rim on a 105 hub up front. With decent 23mm tires it's
surprisingly quick and comfortable. It's sub 21 lbs. with pedals. With a plated chain and enclosed brake it's pretty easy to take care of in the bad weather. It's for around town, or where I need to lock something up outside and leave it.

That is a really sweet bike. A bike of that sort (SS Coaster brake) is on my drool list, although I don't know if I'd trust a coaster brake with my weight (300+lbs)

I do have to allow extra stopping distance, having just a rear brake, the first couple of times I rode it I actually skidded a little at the end of a stop. I'm 175 and it does not stop wonderful. It just depends on if you can get used to it.

Here's another one,

the frame is small but I made it comfortable for me. Using the freewheel more than half the time I rode it 130 miles one day last summer. It's 21 lbs. It's fast, It has Suze Pro sealed bearing hubs.
Having two brakes lets me do a lot more when freewheeling.

Nice. What size is it? I have the same year frame, but repainted and kitted out entirely differently. Well, I do have a Technomic stem, but not one of those super long stem ones.

You could recognize the stem? wow! or did you just know what's available? Still pretty good. It's a 54 but the stem saves the day for me.

You probably noticed the odd way I have the handlebars twisted.
It allows me to use the tops and the top of the drops while sitting up on a long ride. However it still lets me get reasonably far down with the lower ends used instead of the drops. Good for a headwind etc. I can really get low in the drops behind the brakes. It looks awful but it's good on a century.

I noticed the "Boston" in your forum I.D......Did you sometimes lock your bike up across the street from Brigham and Women’s Hospital? I take my mother in law there every three to six months. There used to be one there often, all original.

The Technomic is about the only stem that comes that long and Nitto's are pretty distinctive on the forward part. I have one that I stripped off a tiny (maybe 50cm?) crashed Univega with super short 50mm reach. Another came off a late 80's Fuji road racer. My friend's S12-S buildup also has a Technomic. All are shorter stems though.

I do live in Boston and live not too far from B&W in Jackson Square (basically the other side of Mission Hill from Brigham Circle). My bike's been sprayed orange as long as I've had it, but that doesn't mean it isn't the same bike or at least frame that you saw. I bought the frame from a student in Mission Hill for $90 completely stripped (including paint) though the serial number was still on the BB shell. The only thing that tipped me off was the geometry and some remaining bits of paint in the crevices near the headtube and bottom bracket (the yellow and red nail down the year pretty well as do the lack of any brazeons). It still had the BB, one crank (the extractor threads were stripped) and the original headset when I got it.

That's very interesting. Sometime this last summer, I was up there ( I live in R.I.) with a friend. We were riding the bike path around the Charles, I did not have the track bike.
But, my friend had to visit the Science Museum to visit the men's room. I stayed outside to watch the bikes at the bike rack outside the front door. There was an all orange fixed gear bike with bull horn bars or home made bull horns. A small taillight, I think a front brake lever on the straight part of the bars. And a top tube protector? I remember thinking "what a cool bike" then "this is a Fuji track bike" I don't remember why I thought that, maybe the fender eyelets on the front fork? don’t know? I remember thinking that all orange is a good color for traffic visibility.

I like orange, it's the new fast. It's also good for visibility, actually looks good on me, shows grease and sand really well, and makes me feel like I'm racing for Molteni.

I think there may be some frame damage, possibly wrecked, it seems like one of the stays is marginally closer to center than the other. I don't know, the brake bridge just doesn't seem to sit quite over the center of the tire. I keep meaning to take it in to checkout the alignment and was even in the shop this weekend installing a new headset, but I totally forgot.

I really would have been surprised if there was another all orange fixie that I recognized as a Fuji Track bike.

Same orange and black theme as my 73 superbeetle. Not neccesarily fast but good for visability.
How else can you get a 30+ year old car with no dents?
