Did you saw off your rear brake mounts?

Yep, and all cable guides. Hacksaw and file. Forgot to add touchup to one spot I see in that pic.

Good soundin'. I'm gonna end up running front and rear cantis on mine for the freewheel, but I am at this point debating whether or not I should get rid of the derailleur guides. If I got rid of those, I'd have to lose the hanger, too. Decisions, decisions...

P.S. Is your hub a 130mm by chance? If so, what's the chainline on that sucker?

shapelike 12-17-06 10:50 PM

It's Surly's "New" mountain hub - fixed/freewheel and 135mm (32h).

As Shapelike said (I bought it from his lbs). Its a fix/free. Awesome hub. This might give a better look.

Nifty. I just bought a Surly fix/free through Quality. The spacing on my frame is 130mm since it's an older MTB, and I'm sort of wondering if it's the same base hub as their 120mm one, just with spacers added. We shall see in about six days, I guess. The track chainline would certainly make thing easier.

Ah yes, and what gearing you got? I been thinking 48/15 fixed and 48/16 free, with a 165mm crank.

42/14 with a 172.5mm (or 175, I can't remember right now) 105 crank. I have a wide b/b and the chainline fit perfectly.

I have one of those Surly hubs sitting here on my desk, I should get an old mountain frame and build a wheel, that looks great.

I think I like the KHS 100 in black better than the heinz tomato ketchup colour mine is. I like the crank/chainring on that bike.

edit: nice touch with the green. I barely noticed it. Don't you dare make anything else green

popluhv 12-18-06 10:14 AM

dude, the tennis ball is supposed to be laced into the wheels, not the saddle.;)

kalani79 12-18-06 10:15 AM

Oh I get it... tennis ball... tennis court!

The black is WAY nicer than the red.

I don't plan to. I have a set of non-machined black rims I plan to build up soon, so more black is in the works. I do have set of horns I used for a while with black grip tape and green ourys on the flats. I've been told to get green deep-vs, but I thought that would be ugly as sin.

Thanks.

My friend just picked it up while we were there. I don't play, but I thought I could use it as a chain tensioner if I take the wheel off. The ball fell out like an hour later so no big loss anyway.

natboy888 12-18-06 10:19 AM

here's mine:
jamis sputnik (bought it as frame/fork only) and frakenbiked the rest of it.
its still in progress and the next upgrades are wheels/drivetrain change over. i like the headset/setm combo i have now and might try horns in the future but it works as is.

after looking at the pics on here i need to go practice come photography skills! hahha
and you'll have to forgive me tube wraps. (my friends call them my bandages of shame)
keeps the gunk off of them and keeps the branding out of sight.

I can throw my bike around and don't have to feel bad about effing it up. No brands, no masters.

Luckily my flite 100 is a dedicated rack and fender commuter so the uglier the better. Its all wrapped in up white and blue electrical tape with blue flake saddle and yellow handlebars. Yours looks better but I already have pretty bikes :D

i have a 113mm bb matched to a set of 170mm cranks... the extra ground clearance of a mtb allows for a bigger arm with no problems... i have yet to pedal strike in any turn... and just yesterday rode it down some stairs with no issues... my rear hub is also the surly 135mm fixed/free and my gearing is set lower at 38:16... since i use my bike as an urban assault/snow bike... theres no reason for me to have any higher gearing...

but i still commute 15 miles every night on it... and its only takes marginaly longer then on my roadie... partialy due to the 2.5in kenda knobbie on the back still... drag city!

I hear there are some races around the state over the next couple of months. I'm sure we'll catch up!

DoshKel 12-18-06 12:44 PM

Hopefully man. We are planning to throw something big around here in Feb., so maybe then :).

Take care man.
