details please

TheDean 05-23-07 09:21 AM

looks very nice what does a paintjob like that run?

mcatano 05-23-07 09:52 AM

Painthawg - it is certainly satisfying. It's also really satisfying to have your second attempt come out a lot better than your first.

andypants - thanks! I need to save some money for a wheelset and then I'm good to go.

Rattlebag - thanks a lot!

zacked - it's #2.

Boozy - thanks very much!

mokl - anything in particular you'd like to know?

TheDean - I got it painted by Duane at Chestercycles. A standard one-colour job starts at $85, with additional colours for $25 and up. Masking is $40-60. The paintjob (two colour w/ masking on the seat stay caps) cost me $150, which I think is a steal for a good quality, environmentally-friendly job by a guy who actually knows how to paint a bike. I imagine his prices will go up as he there's more demand for his work and the quality continues to improve.

My first road bike in high school (purchased in '80 or '81, can't quite remember), just recently converted.

The first attempt was one I made for my ladypal last year - it's still alive and well.
Chestercycles is in Libertyville, IL.

That's really 25.5? It looks a lot bigger than my 25.5 tourer. A LOT bigger.

very ****ing nice mcatano

Igneous Faction 05-23-07 11:43 AM

What lugs did you use, Long Shen?

My girlfriend's conversion is painted almost the exact same color. Looks good!

mcatano 05-23-07 01:41 PM

Thanks - and yeah, those are Long Shen long point lugs. The BB shell is Kalavinka, as are the track ends and fork tips.

Whether or not that holds up to today's ideals about art is a different argument...

Is that a Track SE, or just a small track?
Like the set-up, think the picture would benefit from a slightly higher angle (seeing the underside of the brooks=not the most aesthetically pleasing), looks nice though!

Sekt 05-23-07 06:51 PM

Damn catano, that looks sweet as hell. Nice work, must be very satisfying to have it all painted and complete.

Thanks. It's not an SE, but is the smallest of the tracks (49cm).

..yeah..it's not the best photo...just a quick photo snapped halfway through tonights ride. I hope to get some better photos once I clean her up (notice the mud on the bottom of the seattube)

Have people seen Pastor Bob's find over at C&V? I hope he restores it. The foot pegs on the fork are great.

I just got this bike about 2 weeks ago, and i am loving it. I added the SOMA bars to start with, but next is a new saddle and pedals.
