Otto Rax 09-30-07 04:23 PM

otto rax,
how are those ellipses with the brake? does it wear the paint down much?

Otto Rax 09-30-07 04:39 PM

oh ya, the surface on the front was toast real quick, but i got them for their strength. i ride hard 6/7 days, and they've only been trued once in 9 months. i hit a 2' rockwall at full clip in the middle of the night and the front didnt lose a mil of tolerance. the BEST wheels out there by far. and ive tried alot.

Batson 09-30-07 04:49 PM

ive heard those wheels can take beatings like tina. i was just wondering how the paint held up with the brake. thanks. got any close up pics of the braking surface?

Yeah, excuse me if I'm having trouble believing that your bike is as light as a Cervelo R3.

Otto Rax 09-30-07 05:23 PM

youre excused.

Nah, nah, I am too. Reppin' the McGill set. I just don't know how to change my location thing.

My friend has the Ellipses, and while incredible wheels, they suck for braking. They squeal like none other. I suppose it might be true for all painted rims though.

Just finished this build today. It's a Surly Cross Check ... with chunky tires. Primarily for riding our "rails to trails" bike paths. The surfaces are hard packed soil, some fine gravel, and some limestone screenings.

I'm guessing that's a 27" in front? What kind of frame is it?

Here's better pictures of the Miyata Two-Ten:

Definitely a 27". A pretty janky conversion, if you ask me. Which you didn't.

This is my Miyata EightySE. Pretty much all cheaper parts but it rides very nicely.

Ummm, ok, I'll say it...

WTF is the saddle doing down there? You use it for scratching the inside of your thighs? If you sit on it then
a) the frame is way too large (in which case you can't really reach the bars so lets's move on to b)
b) it is way too low.
c) I'm wrong for some mysterious reason, maybe you're one of those (idiotic) people who photograph before they ride or adjust.

Test: sit on the bike, cranks vertical, one leg stretched out. Does your heel reach the pedal? Yeah, it does...

But I want to be able to put my foot on the ground and sit on the saddle when I stop. lol
