It seems totally foreign to those of us who ride with pedal retention system, who can skid or skip without so much as getting out the saddle.

Ah, things are making sense now. I do lean pretty far forward when I skid, which does take some time. ("balls to stem" comes to mind)
I ride moderately fast Id say. High teens/low 20's? Idk is that normal?

I think I shall get some clips.

Sweet! A kook on a scraper bike.

Is it just me or does his elbow look like it would be painful.

cc700 10-17-07 07:03 AM

umm... can we have with the less slurs please?

tinydr 10-17-07 07:15 AM

piwonka 10-17-07 07:34 AM

dirtyphotons 10-17-07 07:59 AM

I'm not a brakeless clip-n-strap rider. I'm a two-brake clipless rider with a concern for safety.

Even if I were, it's still a whole heluva lot safer than brakeless with platforms.

What would you go with?

Either get that Nitto for me, or sell me your Thompson Elite.

maybe just ignorant, for locking up such a jewel.

dirtyphotons 10-17-07 08:49 AM

yeah, the nitto and thompson are both nice stems, but they seem to have different lengths and angles. i'd go with the one that feels the best and sell or hoard the other one.

edit: i might be wrong, if they're the same length and angle then i'd probably just stick with the thompson.

The Bottechia was my first "road" bike. I bought it about seven years ago for ten bucks; it was beat to death by owners unknown before I got it. Its been languishing in my garage for the last six years and has only recently had a re-birth as a sucide hub beater; this is the bike I take when I'm gonna lock my bike up somewhere. Leaving the Paddywagon locked up outside makes me nervous.

The Bottechia rides much better fixed than it ever did as a ten speed; the faster you go, the more "solid" it feels.

i believe that. i haven't met him but i think i saw him at a party once about a year ago too. i just saw this bike yesterday.

i think i saw some kid on something nice yesterday too, riding. red front triangle, white stays. tight clearances, fixed or SS...i'm gonna keep my eye out for that one.

I love how the nitto works but my favorite part of having a threadless stem is the faceplate so I wouldn't use one of those nittos.

TehK 10-17-07 01:55 PM

Does nitto make a quilled stem with a faceplate?
