Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Cyclocross bike, Hardtail MTB, a Mossberg 590, and an HT radio. I'm good to go.
If it helps, I build fires, shoot bows, work with anything electronic, fix anything, have the know-how.
The only problem is that I don't look as good as Mel Gibson in Mad Max.

You also don't have a slave in assless chaps.

Alright, I suppose you're in. I'm sure we can find another slave in assless chaps around. I'm a radio operator, so I can handle communications. Our money will essentially become worthless, but we can use it for a short time to get what we need. After that, we might have to work on a system of bartering or something of monetary worth, like gold. Most of the hipster pansies will be taken out pretty fast. They're not adept to survival without a stream of new Apple products and Volkswagens. So, we'll have to be careful who we roll with. Trust me, I've put some thought into this.

you're thinking of WEZ (played by vernon wells) who had a slave in assless chaps until the feral kid throws his boomerang into the slave's head.

I knew mad max never had his own, but I was making a generalization about the film as a whole. Either way, it seems like a must have.

Falkon: I am already somewhat opposed to dependance on apple products and Volkswagens. So, more than happy to exclude those people are make them our slaves.

If it is was the Apocolypse, then Chicago would probably be facing some massive food shortages and all the violence and disorder that would come with that, I would imagine that somewhere like N. Minnesota, Colorado, Montana or Alaska would be a much better bet, as long as you have some skills and know how to live off the land (kinda rare these days).
