Ouch !
Just want to add some useful info.....
Riding along the back of a warehouse district in pitch black night with only minimal LED lights = OUCH.
I hit a speed bump at 18 mph and just went up in the air and into my left side.... road rash count = shoulder, left hip, and behind the kneeeeee....... (? you figure that one out.. cuz I sure cant! ).....

On the otherhand, fun can also be had, our last alleycat was an indoor warehouse race. Other than having a complete stem failure it was a blast.

foe this time.
I've crashed before, but never without any warning, and never as violently !
It was awesome in its own way.
Funny part was that before we went out, my buddy said " you don't need a helmet ! " ... but I put it on anyway...
My head slammed into the road so hard it still hurts now, + a nice gash in the side of the 'met.

You'll hear much quicker this way, than with using traditional dressings (garze and no stick).
EDIT: and definitely clean very thoroughly (but without hurting the wound, just use lots and lots of water) the rash before sealing it off with the second skin.

**** man, sorry to hear this. Road rashes suck. I would highly recommend using Tegaderm on the less severe rashes, and Duoderm or such colloid-based patch for the more severe ones. If it oozes a lot, just use ordinary dressings for a day or so and then go the Duoderm route.

Thanks, I will keep it wet and covered =)
I have healed road rash like this from previous meetings with the road on the mc.
Unfortunately no dressing is going to heal the pain and soreness in my hip and quads from the impact ...
I feel like someone took a sledgehammer to my leg in some homacidal attempt at a charliehorse.

What product did you use, and how long did it take for the rashes to heal? I had horrible gravel rashes last summer - they were so bad I feared some of the stones may have been lodged in my wounds. Luckily, that wasn't the case. Anyway, the seal-off treatment worked wonderfully - fastest healing possible, because the wound is kept moist by the plasma itself, and the fibroblasts can rebuild the tissues in a protected envirnoment. The classic patch/dressing method requires daily or even more frequent re-dressing, which just kills the fibroblasts.

The hospital I work for has a really great wound care dept. I just went to the lady and asked her for some stuff to heal me up.
She gave me a handfull of those awesome dressings, and a little pee-jar full of some kind of cream ... I just kept it wet and changed the dressing daily and within 7 days new skin was already there and the wound was healed.
Since this X went down on a friday night, I won't get the chance to pick up any supplies until monday.
So for now, its just Neosporin to keep it wet, and a sleeveless shirt for me.

Interesting. So the wound healed in one week even though you were re-dressing it daily? But I guess by keeping it moist with "those awesome dressings and some kind of cream" (please note down the names if you get the same products this time) avoided scabbing, which is very good.
Hey, post some pics. You know the meme: pics or it didn't happen

I guess it also depends on the person, some people just heal up faster than others, Im lucky enough to be one of them
and at 42 thats a good thing!
hope it heals quickly for you
EDIT: We used to use a water based lube when inserting nasal canulas, I cant remeber the name of this stuff but it worked well on my road rash, I was coming into work and had a small crash that resulted in bad road rash on my right arm and leg, got to work cleaned it up and slapped some of the gel on it and covered it with a large gauze (the one with the "plastic like" coating on one side) just to keep it from scabbing over for the day, worked out great! just shoot down to your local fire station and ask them. will post the name if I remember =)

^^^That's absolutely true. Diabetics heal much slower than healthy people. For them, Duoderm-type of patches are a must, and before such colloidal patches existed, for some diabetics surgery was a really tough challenge.
I work with diabetics quite often as part of my charity activities with blind people. I'm so glad I am not affected by diabetes!

I hate to sound like Topper, but your rashes have nothing on mine
! You don't need Duoderm for those, but a Tegaderm-type of thin skin would be perfect.
I imagine the blunt force trauma was the bigger damage in that accident.

Just sit in a tub of water for a while. Really soak the rashes and you should be golden, specially if you can get near some saline water. I had a HUGE patch missing on my calf from longboarding last summer, went to hawaii and it was mostly healed in like a week.
