27" front/700c rear ???
I got my hands on a 700c flip-flop wheel. Would I look like a total loser if I use it as my rear wheel with a 27" wheel on the front? I don't really want to convert the front, because that would cost money. Or should I use the 27" rear wheel and save the 700c flip-flop for another project?

27" front with 700c rear is a death wish. Your bike will no longer turn or handle properly. You might as well just jump out in traffic and get it over with.

It will work fine, I have several thousand miles on my commuter with 27" front and 700c rear.

LOL. Sweet. I will probably use the old 27" wheel as an option for another gear ratio for the days when I'm riding more hilly terrain or longer distances. How "goofy" does it look? Can you post a pic?

The difference in diameter is only 8mm, so only 4mm in the radius. If you use a fat tire on the 700c and a skinnier one on the 27" they should be even closer in diameter.

just the difference in tires will make a huge difference, much more so than the wheel size (IMO).

It had nothing to do with the wheel size swap. You won't feel < 4mm of reduced height at the front of the bike.

I think the difference is hardly noticeable.
I mean, eventually you will bend a rim if you ride hard, or simply desire a different wheelset. Then you can replace em, as far as performance goes, you wont notice much.

if the change was from a 27x1-1/4 to 700x23 theres a good chance the difference would have a noticeable effect on the trail and handling..
and it would be > 12mm
and it would be > 12mm
