OK so I recieved my Sugino KYOTOloco Crank the other day. First of all it is beautiful. I got the Red one. Love it. So since I purchased it I've read on the net that Sugino produced a highly limited number of these. Unfortuneately I can't find any production #'s. Do any of you folks out there have any Idea where I can find this info? I e-mailed Sugino, but I don't expect a reply.

thats the one. I wouldn't think they would be sequentially #'d, but if they only made like 500 of each color or only 6000 of the whole series, it would be rad to say I have only one of a few! Ya know what I mean.

Both the pink and the red look very nice. But since I found this seller with a simple google query and selected the first hit in the list, I feel this product is more ubiquitous than the OP would care to admit.

tbh, my girl rides pink powdercoated RDs that look waaaaay cooler (and didn't come with a "limited edition" pricetag).

Those are EVERYWHERE in San Francisco bike shops.

And last time i was in Portland they were in maybe ONE shop.

So rare in Portland. Common in SF. Even more common on the NET.


If you wanted rare you shouldve just gone for the SUgino Grand Mighty cranks with matching chainring. Not that theyre rare but the fact that no one has a set haha.

Oh I will have no problem using the Loco crank. I was just curious to know the validity of the comments by e-tailers. Seemingly they are more common than presented. Now lets roll!!

ok so now i have a problem... at least I think it is. since I got my Sugino installed and the hub flipped to the fixed side. I have this issue: When mashing hard it seems like either the hub slips or the BB slips. It's happened a few times so far. Also when going into a skid. everything seemed tight after my lunch ride today, but this doesn't seem like it should be happening. Any thoughts...

woah woah woah. okay chill out here pal. first off, you had the wheel flipped? you mean when you were in the bike shop you just had them flip the wheel over? did you install the cog properly or did the lbs do it?

you don't need a whole new wheel either. just a new hub. take to your lbs, have them lace the rim to a new hub, properly install the cog and lockring. avoiding pouring more money on your hipster machine.

well I flipped it myself. The bike (Giant Bowery) came with the flip-flop hub and a 18 tooth cog on both sides. I was running the freewheel side to a week B4 i got the Sugino.

You don't need a new hub, either, if all you want to do is ride fixed and never will use the singlespeed, you can install the fixed cog/sprocket onto the threads where the freewheel is/should be currently, and add a lockring - one of those used for BBs. But in any case, make sure you rotafix the sprocket onto the hub, and add locktite to the lockring's threads.
