I work a block from the best coffee place in Pittsburgh that does all the Intelligentsia stuff and I had a rockin' cortado today. They also have a Clover machine, perhaps the greatest coffee invention of all time.

Daily Black Coffee with Chicory

Daily BLACK COFFEE WITH CHICORY is a way of life. Black coffee without chicory leads to withdrawls within a matter of a couple of days. I am surprised this thread could go over three pages without someone mentioning CHICORY.

For the unfamiliar, here is a link for your edification:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicory

You can purchase pure chicory to mix with your coffee of choice or purchase coffee with chicory. Are there any other coffee with chicory fans here? What is your favorite brand?

Lots of coffee lovers 'round here.
I used to dig it but cant drink it now or have any caffeine at all.
Im 100% caffeine free for many years now.

It was hell getting off of caffeine. Besides the health reason that caused me to have to quit caffeine, Im glad i did it. Im as awake as i ever was with caffeine but all day long. No headaches cause i dont need that fix and also I feel like i can think clearer without caffeine in me brain.

my parents did. it's common with old folks in europe. i always assumed it was a taste acquired during the war, to save on coffee you'd mix it with chicory...

i only drink espresso myself. i have since before i was a hipster.

plus one on coffeegeek.com, if you want to upgrade your coffee system, read reviews over there. first thing is to abandon store bought ground coffee. last time i looked a decent grinder did cost $100 or so. so what if you can't drink bad coffee once you have tasted good coffee?

This poast inspired me to get a new grinder, gotta conical burr grinder on the way! Whoo! I would also like to echo pulv, I've been a coffee lover much longer than I've been a hipster. I used to be the french press crusader, I kept giving mine away to some poor sap who needed to see the light. Gave away 5 that I can recall. I'm about to bring one to work along with my old grinder (once the new one arrives). I recently got a bialetti too. Can't believe I went so long without one. Can't wait for summertime, iced coffee with a splash of heavy cream and a rolled up bali shag after a bike ride is the best. thing. ever.

Buzz kill. Stop reminding me of the inevitable attempt to quit.

That thought is seriously depressing as I'm enjoying an amazing cafe au lait coffee right now. F'uckin' $3.50 too....that's the main reason to quit this stuff.

No doubt...that stuff adds up for sure.
I know people spending well over 200 bucks a month on coffee drinks.
Probably some people in here spending more than that.
200 bucks is a lot of bike parts.

Coffee? Don't you know it's the Devil's drink?

I hate coffee for a number of reasons. One, it is just another thing that drivers do while attempting to drive instead of actually driving. Two, it drives me crazy that adults need two cups, a cup holder liner and a sippy cup top to drink coffee and I just have nightmares about all that ending up in a landfill. I think you should be forced at gunpoint to bring your own reusable mug/cup to a to-go coffee shop. Three, it generally gives people dog **** breath. My fifth grade teacher was a drunk and would drink around twelve cups a day and when you raised your hand for help he'd come over, lean over your shoulder...and nearly kill you with his feces breath. Oh god, that was terrible.

I think it is a behemoth truckload of bullsh*t that people "need" coffee to get through the day. Hell, I'd love a bunch of different drugs to help me get through the day. I'd love to sip beer or whiskey all morning to help me get by. I'd love to have a morning snort of speed to pick me up. It would be quite nice.

While I generally loathe coffee drinkers and the fact that due to coffee drinkers there are Starsucks all over the globe, I don't mind non-American cultures as much, where coffee is a social drink and not a crutch to pick you up and get by.

Wow, first I let it be known I didn't like the Yamaguchi bicycle in the favorite bike thread and now I've made it known that I dislike coffee. I might be asked to leave the forum

1) Drivers like that are just jackasses. If they weren't reaching for a coffee, it'd be something else, a Red Bull or Pepsi perhaps?
2) I agree, paper cups and sippy caps suck. The best coffee shops give you a real ass coffee mug to sip on while you're there, so there's no waste for the people that like to drink inside.
3) Sounds like your 5th grade teacher was an unhealthy person and probably didn't pay attention to things like brushing teeth. Coffee may add to it, but it's hardly to blame for a guy that has nasty insides that have been trashed by alcohol.
4) Coffee is a pretty weak drug compared to the others you mentioned. But yeah, I agree that it's stupid to have crutches.
5) So hipsters drinking coffee socially and for the taste at shops are exempt from your steeming pile of hate? Sweet.

PS I love the taste of great coffee, like the effects, and used to drink it daily. Green teas my current choice for caffiene though.

Dude, you speak many truths. However, a lot of people here are talking about making coffee at home which doesn't take up space in landfills (I've never seen anyone use styrofoam/paper cups at home). That, and the fact that that for the cost of two chain coffee shop drinks I can buy a pound of fresh beans to brew at home that will taste infinitely better than any of the crap I can buy elsewhere generally keeps me from drinking coffee outside of the house UNLESS, as you stated, for the social aspect. Not a big "needer" of coffee, I just love it.

most of the self-described coffee snobs in this thread probably prefer drinking their carefully considered beverage out of a ceramic or glass (read: reusable) mug anyway. it tastes better.

for what it's worth, a shot of espresso + a pint of Guinness or a neat Glenlivet + cup of french press are excellent pairs. If you needed to bring in 'other vices'.
