I just heard the news today. RIP Sheldon!

Heyduke 02-07-08 01:28 PM

Like I said in the Mechanic's forum, every time Sheldon posted, it was like we all got a free lunch.

I need a t-shirt or somethin'....

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet but it seems appropriate to me. From Sheldon's own photo gallery on his site.

For me at least it was like you were a kid having problems with your physics homework and Richard Feynman emailed you to point you in the right direction.

No offense in this, but does anyone think the family is going to auction off sheldons bicycles or bicycle related items.

Is there a Bicycling Museum somewhere? I'd hate to see his collection broken up. (But OTOH I'd be honored to own one of his bikes.)

I just started with touring readings as I prepare to startup riding again this Spring after a 10 year haiatus. I found this site and his amazing. I Admire people who seem to live a fruitful and unselfish life as he seemed to have. If only we could all live in such a manor.

I am surprised this didn't make it to the networks nightly or morning newshows. I emaild Good Morning America, if anyone else could let the other networks know. THis guy touched millions, and people should know that.

ayez un bon voyage mon ami, le monde est un endroit triste avec votre absence

Serendipper 02-13-08 09:51 AM

I ride fixed. Thanks Sheldon.

Your words inspired me to get a proper roadbike, live car free, ride fixed, and enjoy my own eccentric existence on two wheels.

I love you. Ride In Peace.

Had a long long day working on bikes and am now just chilling ....................... I close my eyes and I can see that loon like, genuine gentle ... man (sic). He gave me inspiration and shared my weird love of Raleigh 20's . He convinced me that I did have the talent inside to restore bikes and I could, should and would pass on that passion to others. Any self doubt was countered with .... "Sure you can Ian" .....and most of the time he was right. What a complete loss to all of us ................... I thought you would be around forever and you will, Sheldon "immortal" Brown

Amen.

I've built, rebuilt, or upgraded 5 bikes over the past 2 years with his site as my primary reference point. Sheldon answered one question I had on BF before - saved my head tube, maybe my life. I was so stoked that he had answered my basic question - I was walking around my house beaming - spent the next hour explaining who Sheldon was to my wife and sister-in-law.

I don't have the words...

RIP Sheldon

He will indeed be missed, I hope his advice will continue to inform and inspire.

clayborne 02-22-08 01:27 PM

thank you for teaching me most every thing i know about bikes. i have tried my best to pass on everything i learned form you to others. you have given me inspiration to be mostly car free and take pride in being a bike nerd. your effigy will hang in our bike coop as of tomorrow. ride as hard as you can while living....

reluctantfeste 02-23-08 05:10 PM

My God. What a loss.

My condolences to your family and friends.

My Dad said this at his brother's funeral this year--man, does it apply to you: Well done.

Thank you. Thank you.

flipflops 02-25-08 06:20 PM

Sorry to hear this. Late condolences. He gave really great advice and his website was a great help to me when I started cycling.

the scout 02-27-08 11:58 AM

Just heard the news. The world is a sadder place with his passing.
My sincerest condolences to his wife and family.
RIP Sheldon
