It's incredible that no one has brought the problem of the off-topic threads to our attention, before. You must be gifted with stunning insight. I bow before you in deepest admiration.

Anyone who thinks this forum is too dumb should slide on over to pinkbike. This place is a vibrant forum for ideas compared to what the street bmx/mtb kiddies are talking about...and I mean that with no disrespect to people who post there.

I saw this documentary where they showed that if you read off-topic threads, your penis will shrink and your head become crimson. Off with the off-topic threads, I say! Those endanger our collective penises and heads!

not saying no one brought it up. but if you compare this forum to mechanics and road, those are more heavily modded it seems and tend to function better because of it.

Do you want a proof? I did this, once: I went through (quickly) the listing of the last 20.000 threads in this subforum and in the mechanics subforum. Result: I found hundreds of locked threads here - but only 1 (yeah!) in the mechanics forum.
And I did expect that result, because I spend a lot of time in that forum, and wanted a quantitative proof of the fact that THIS forum is OVER-moderated.

The mechanics forum is NOT MODDED AT ALL! Therefore, you're full of ****.

However, there's still some truth to my statement about this subforum being over-moderated: bonechilling's banning by mistake is a sign of haphazard moderation that's gone berserk. I don't fault the mods intentions that I feel are for the most part, genuinely good. But there's something to the method that leaves much to be desired. Lock that thread, delete that post, delete that thread, edit that other post, ban this dude... and then they end up throwing the baby out with the water.
And all that modding didn't really improve things, did it? Well at least I think it didn't.

11.4...nowhere to be seen
Sheldon...gone
Shants...very rarely
Msngr...even less
Juvi...less than that
QueerPunk...I can't come up with anything witty, but not there much either
Teigapoonsa...or however you spell it....misunderstood, but not there either
It is true that new people learn alot here, the old timers, not so much. I am embarrased to say that I started a white tires thread about 2 years ago, as well as a "why did you start riding a track bike thread".
Most new people do it.
This forum is like LSD. You can learn alot through the use of it, but eventually you need to graduate from it, otherwise you end up yelling at strangers for virtually no reason.
BTW, Albert Hoffman is the guy in my avatar. Seems sorta fitting. I'll be in C+V.

One thing that moding as your describe accomplishes is removing any sense of responsibility from the average poster for the upkeep of quality conversation. Of course you could argue that the nature of people and of anonymous interaction has already created such a void.

i didn't realize the others weren't modded. not saying this forum is all **** that doesn't belong here. far from. there exists a boatload of good info amongst all the OT posts and whatnot. its just odd that, moderation or not, this forum is brimming with immature posts and **** that has nothing to do with bikes. i dont see the difficulty in posting OT threads in places where they are on topic.
I don't get people like you, that are against OT threads. Can't you, you know, just ******** ignore them? It doesn't take a lot of mental effort, I guarantee you. It's the same type of effort that you need when you look at all the other threads in any subforum, and decide that you are not interested in the topic. I trust that you can understand this concept.
