Was this in KS? My uncle got banned from the state of KS back when he was 18 and you couldn't drink in MO until 21. I always found this hilarious.

If you wanna feel old really fast, become a teacher while you're in your 20's.

As for Skanking Biker, My theory is that he saw a Skankin' Pickle album in Turtles when he was looking for the New Age section and decided to rip off the name.

A good friend of mine that I worked with who is about five years younger than me saw that movie and told me that he thought of me when "Frank the Tank" started talking about spending the day at Home depot and such. What can I say? Got a house, it comes with the territory. Seriously, I'm 33 and I'm enjoying my thirties more than any other decade so far. Nice wife(usually), awesome kids, nice house, good job, some toys and I'm in better shape than I've been in since, well, ever cause of the fix. I'm getting better as I age.

Taught Art for 5 years, and damnit you are right.

Ahh...Turtles. The place where you walked into a freestanding building to buy an album on a wax disc that you had no clue what it sounded like. It was an exciting time. You were the guinea pig for the rest of the world, unwrapping a turd or masterpiece and listening carefully through it to measure it's worth as a frisbee.

Sixty Fever....are you still one of the Stoned Overlords?

If so, can you start a FAQ thread here? Thanks.

I used to have a Skankin' Pickle pin. I didn't think the band was that great, but the pin had a picture of a dancing pickle, how could I not buy that?

Yeah, they were pretty terrible. They did have songs about Margret Cho and Degrassi Jr High though.
I'll put them on the same level with The Mad Caddies. Cool name, cool graphics, not so cool music.

Yes.

Frequently stoned (legally).

Overlord.

I don't think I can handle two threads on my own.

Is anyone else stoned ?

No sir---I'm the proud owner of a black bomber dec'd with a plethora o patches and pins including skanking pickle.---band did suck--but how can you not like "fakin jamacin?" I saw them at Skappleton when I was like 17 along with Mustard Plug, the Toasters, the Pacers, Smitty, and a whole bunch o other ska bands that no longer exist. (well the toaster do, but good luck finding a ska show these days.)

Toasters! Good stuff, also saw Hepcat (diggem) and Toots and the Maytals. But, then again I was more gutterpunk than ******** two-tone kick stepper. Subhumans and all that lot...Operation Ivy, original Bad Religion, Sham 69, the 4Skins, etc...

I liked the brawls ;)

you are somewhat dorky--this is highly predictive that you are
good attorney. But you are not dorky enough that you have
crossed over into the inhuman attorney quality.

I have a feeling that TIP is a beautiful (and artistic) grown-ass woman. Far from a teenybopper. At least late 20's?

But she ain't sayin'. I respect that.

This is my first year that I'm officially older than each and every one of the parents of my students. Two of them were students at the middle school when I was a teacher there. Last year, we had a kindergartener at the school who's mom had actually been a student of mine.

The funny thing is that I actually feel younger at 46 than I did at 36.

There's nothing like a good ska show you make you feel young. The best show I ever saw was Voodoo Glow Skulls, Link 80 and MU330. They had been on tour for a while so they decided to switch things up by changing bands after every song. They got really fast at it after a few rounds and played like that for three hours.

I was in Bangkok for one night a few months ago and happened to see a poster for a band called Teddy Ska that was playing that night. I went to it not knowing what to expect, not even knowing if it was actually a ska band (they have odd names for things when they translate them into english). It ended up being a large club filled with 500 thai kids drinking whiskey and dancing their asses off to one of the best ska bands I've heard in a long time. I saw only two other westerners there. totally awesome.

Unfortunately, being a teacher means I can't have a mohawk anymore. Well, the real reason is that my hair died when I was 24, but I'll blame it on teaching instead.
