I have been following this thread since the beginning, and just want to thank Mike at bikesdirect for all he has done for everyone. I realize he is making money off our sales, but its nice to see someone taking your suggestions and making them a reality.

I myself am waiting for the purple kilo to come around august..

Thanks Mike!!

BAM MARGERINE D00000000D!

I got my frameset today, everything looks good. Nicely packaged, good paintjob, etc. I love the pseudo-aero downtube, also has a threaded fork for the 53cm. Overall very pleased and looking forward to putting some parts on it.

do they have a clear coat this time around?
and can anyone confirm on the seatpost size?

PaginaVilot 04-18-08 11:44 PM

Anyone know what size headset and stem I need? I'm getting different answers from everyone.

They aren't 1 inch anymore?

neverjared 04-19-08 09:37 AM

The forks with the longer steerer tube can be run 1 Inch Threadless.

Otherwise you're going to want a 1 Inch Threaded Headset (26.4 Crown Race) with a Quill Stem.

Edit: My white 50cm kilo frame arrived very fast! Props to Jeff and some great customer service over at Bike Island! It looks like it's going to make a great worry-free city bike!

26.8, the 27.0 was very snug, and not as readily available apparently.

craigmoyer 04-19-08 08:12 PM

Got mine on friday.

It is very orange. The pictures do not really show the color very well, it is very close to highlighter orange.

Love the frame, though!

If Mike is considering this, I'm going to hold off on the Kilo Pro.

bonechilling 04-20-08 04:25 PM

Let me just say, once again, that a Bikes Direct aluminum track bike would be very welcome by many people on this board and elsewhere.

andre nickatina 04-20-08 04:37 PM

Seconded. Track guys would be stoked and street riders too if it's done properly and priced competitively.

I think this goes without saying for Mike. :)

26.8 seemed a little loose to me. I haven't tried a 27.0 though.

wearyourtruth 04-20-08 04:57 PM

I'm sure it'll be cheap, just look at everything else they sell. As for being done right, we know that Fuji and Bikes Direct are selling the same frames in one form or another, so it seems realistic that Mike could pick the FTP out of some catalog somewhere. If not, then they should just copy the geometry and the style of either FTP or the Concept have it painted a DECENT COLOR, and ship them out to the waiting world.

asked bikeisland the same question, here's the reply.

"Hello again. Both are correct but the 27.0 is a real tight fit so I think 26.8 will work better.

Best regards,
Jeff @ www.bikeisland.com"

If it's going to be a desirable aluminum frame it's got to have non aero tubing. Something along the lines of the concept/GT/cannondale.

I just can't get down with the FTP.

Oh and the seat tube cut out would be rad, but not as important as non aero tubing IMO.

bonechilling 04-20-08 06:07 PM

Well, this bike would hopefully be for track racers, not people who want riding cliches.

I don't understand how you are confusing non aero tubing with a riding "cliche".

But I guess you are right, the bikes I mentioned are all terrible for riding on the track, and only good for looking cool around town.

It is my understanding that he would like to sell lots of bikes. Therefore a compromise between track and street would be ideal.

Oh yeah, to reiterate, aero tubing is ugly. IMO

andre nickatina 04-20-08 06:26 PM

I'd just be happy with a seat tube cut out, some clean welds and a carbon fork.

Live2Die 04-20-08 07:10 PM
