Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Most I've managed is about 30 miles through Colorado's mountains. Amazing endurance training non the less.
On our flatter grounds i can much farther.

Not to mention the altitude (like breathing through a straw). It's no wonder all the racers I know from Colorado are fast.

The highest point I've ridden up to on my fixed is around 7000-8000ft. I want to ride up mt evans at some point, which is double that altitude.
I visited NYC a few months ago, and my asthma was non existent. It was amazing.
I'd love to get nice a track bike and race on the velodrome when I get to NYC. The only one in CO, isn't exactly close to me, and I think they're pretty strict about who can race on it, as it's used for Olympics training.

I'm planning to ride a fixie on August 23rd in the Shore Fire Century in Delaware. It's a very flat ride through country roads so the ride should be very doable.

ya, I am interested in testing out my speed on a flat century (have done two on very hilly, unsafe routes) but not interested in traveling to DE outside of SEPTA range or paying more than a few bucks for entry.

What peabodypride said above...except for the "not my cup of tea part". Ride goes through lower DE and MD Eastern Shore and is well supported.

Just did this ride today, 56.5 miles with almost 5000' of elevation climbing and descending. I have 66.6 GI and it still ****in sucked. And the whole ride is between 6000 and 7000 feet, so theres not much oxygen.

I rode 80 miles two days in a row to make it to Toronto and back. It was ****ing great. 51x18 and it was comfortable as all hell. I got back and then went on a group ride for 40 miles round trip, totaling 200 miles in three consecutive days.

I wish time would allow me to ride that much every day on one gear. I felt so fresh and alive. I ride about 20 miles a day on average, so stints like that should be a greater fitness task.

i rode 5 miles to the beginning of the rio honda river (5 miles), rode all the way down to seal beach (25ish), rode to long beach (10 miles), then took the metro home and rode home (7 miles). So thats about 47 miles. Thats the furthest i've gone, and i'm gonna do it again in a couple of days!
