Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Nobody has any descriptions on how these failures have happened? Tell us how it happened....Honesty might be an issue cause of all the hate.... Did they get run over by a dumptrucks or....?

A little late with the post....I was actually kidding about the dumptruck but it isn't that far off.

It's like some lame guy putting crazy rims on his stanza POS. You look like a re-re who wants to impress. Rock that **** to the coffee shop... but god knows you're easy to drop.
i agree with your sentiments-- mostly-- but this isn't accurate.
aerospokes were designed specifically for road use.

The main reason for the fuss is simple. Competition is in our blood. Everyone wants to be a little ahead of the curve, a little hipper and more informed and I think we are all on the same page about the type of person that is usually associated with the asymmetrical aerospoke look. BUT, to imply that the aerospoke is simply all form no function is just silly. It is TYPICALLY easier to find them at a more reasonable price than most aero wheels. They obviously aren't carbon fiber because they are powdercoated and carbon fiber would come apart at that temperature so they are also stronger than most aero wheels. You never have to true them. And I don't know what all you dudes are talking about when you say they are fragile. I've taken mine a few feet off the ground and its as reliable as the day i bought it. colorful aero wheels for the street at a reasonable price...what's not to understand. Yeah and I've got a white one on the front so hate mE!!!! and please commence the silliness because we all love it. DUDES

Yo Mark... the price isn't really that reasonable is the thing. $300 could buy you a set of handbuilts with nice spokes/rims and be plenty bombproof.

Also, they're not aero. Not that it matters much on the street.

But the real deal for me is this: if you crack an Aerspoke, say you slipped in a corner and your buddy accidentally ran it over (I saw this happen actually), you're out $300. If the same thing happened to a spoked wheel, you'd be out the price of some spokes (cheaaaaaaap!) and possibly a rim. That's not very practical... they're a wheel bought for looks only dude. This is coming from a guy who rides his Specialized Tri Spoke on the street from time to time...

andre, aerospokes are obviously not the most economical of products man, but if your going to be a jerk and spend some unnecessary dollars to have some fun then you have to take into account the fact that s*** may and probably will happen and you probably deserve it. If you're going to worry about money down to the last dollar then formula, velocity and some crappy road frame will solve your problems on the cheap and tuff handbuilds...which are also fun to build and maintain on your own...are obviously more practical. but we're just having fun cuz!!

I'm by no means rich but some people act like $300 is a fortune. Also what's not "aero" about them...in many of the reviews I've read people mention how fast they are so either they've got amazingly smooth hubs or they're pretty aerodynamic.

@louderthangod i think most people were arguing that the aero advantage is pointless for what most people riding them are going to use them for.

Flywheel effect from all that rolling mass.

Add some hills, start/stop riding and city traffic into the equation and the tables are turned...

you right, in the big scheme of things 300 is not a lot of money. But for a wheel that is of debatable durablity, heavy, will get you laughed at or **** talked on & can get you blown over ina crosswind, it's pretty ****ty. Rather get some cxp 33 or open pros laced to miche hubs or something like that with that money instead.
