As others have said, that 3Rensho is not worth $800. The dood crashed hard and in a bad way to get that dent in that spot, there are many other things that could be wrong with it besides the obvious. And your Windsor (if that is what it is) is a vastly superior bike to a Sparton. This may have been addressed already but Miyata was never NJS. That is not to say they don't make great bikes, I in fact think they make the best bikes and I would kill for a Team Miyata Pista. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...ta_track-1.jpg http://www.cyclingforums.com/showpos...5&postcount=10 |

For instance, here is some pics of a 58cm frame built up for sale on ebay:

I think the frames have evolved somewhat. I'm going to view the frames in person at King Kog & report back. Thanks to all of you who have provided some positive feedback on this thread. I started this thread not only to get feedback from the community, but also as an update to the previous threads on the Sparton topic. Judging from the reviews these frames has received from riders, bloggers & retailers, and the fact that some of the guys involved with selling these frames have come on fora like this, and the fact that the price has risen lends to the fact that they may have made/be making adjustments to their frames. I'm going to purchase one anyway. I like the fact that these guys are very accessible & seem eager to make things right with customer. That is a definite plus. There's always going to be people without anything positive to add. They'll get theirs one day. For the rest of you, stay up. |

A dented, jacked up 3Rensho or a Sparton would both be excellent choices for you.
hahaha......I really enjoyed that, thanks. |
If you can, find out about the forks. The crown on the blue bike looks nicer than the pink one, in my opinion.

Just got back from King Kog, Gina was really helpful. She has 2 Sparton frames in stock. They looked really nice. Not all that light, but not scaffolding either. The paint job was decent. The stickers looked easily removable. She's getting another shipment in soon, sizes 50cm-56cm.
She did mention that there was some prep work needed due to the painting of the frame, but said any average shop could do it for about $20. The 2 frames she has left has been in her shop for a year. SSD, Jorge told me that when I order my frame to let him know whether I want the straight-blade fork, or the curved one. Not too sure about the fork crowns. He said he's getting a shipment in for the store in SC next weekendish. I'm sure he'd be happy to send you some pics. They are selling forks on their eBay store too. I'm going to order the orange frameset with white decals tomorrow. I'll post pics & my finding when it arrives. |
There are some people willing to listen to reason, and some people who only listen to what they want to hear. OP is an example of the latter.

the fork looks like the ones I got from a guy backyard in DC. They were off some Galaxy FreeSpirit or something like that. Just awful frames.
|
What I listen to are facts, not "things you had heard".
I actually have seen this frame in person, how many of you naysayers can say the same? Thought so. |
Did you look at that 3Rensho in person?
Thought so. :) |

What this really comes down to is that you want an undrilled fork and pretty paint. Those were your two main qualifiers in your original post. You also mentioned how you wanted NJS but your reasons for that were for undrilled and paint. At that point you realized you could get some gas pipe piece of **** from Jorge for the price of painting a frame so why not?
If your only concern is looks then go for the Sparton. But be warned, when you show up at a ride no one that knows anything about bikes will be fooled one bit by your sparton frame. The reason NJS frames were so coveted a few years ago was because of build quality. Anyone riding one can tell you the same and when they see your sparton frame you might as well have stuck with your Hour. |
Not trying to be a dick here, but you've seemingly dumped a fair amount of cash (new stem, new wheels, new crankset[?]) into your Windsor, and you've only had it for a few months. So why would you want to go out and buy a new, crappier track bike (the Sparton) after you've put some effort into your bike already?

haha I love how you can see an uneven gap between the bottom headset cup and the headtube. |

If someone who owned the bike said the bike was crap, I would listen to them. But most replies on here are from what people read, and much of that was from almost a year ago. erichsia, your question was answered yesterday. Learn to read. |
Yeah, god knows nobody ever learned any real "facts" by reading...
|
Oh, that's right. You don't have to see a frame to buy it, cause that's the power of "history".
|
Hey, I've got an NJS frame for you $500. Send me a 25% down, and I'll email you some pictures. :roflmao2:
