Hold the Mayo
So our (in a collective, not a possesive sense) Mr. Mayo comes in and post here on occassion. He tells these stories. Some of them stir up the radical idiot, others, the conservative fools. At any rate, he strikes a common tune with many of our souls.
Many of us have suggested that he put it all in a book. Much to his chagrin, and either self loathing, pride, or humblenes, he never answers.
So, be here it noted on this day, I'm holding the Mayo. Holding it all cut and paste. And, one day, when I've accumulated enough Mayo: I'm going to put it all on some cheapish mass producable paper. I'm gonna include voluntary photos from the fixed here, and some other shots that seem to fit the story. I'm gonna sell them to people here for just enough to cover printing. Any excess will go to Mayo's pockettes, or the charity he chooses.
That way we can all hold the Mayo.
So, Mayo, you going to come out and concur?

Toyed with a similar idea: make a booklet with a rubber band and hang it on every fix gear bike I saw, in Chicago I see them all the time, but my iMac is getting on, I simply don’t have the necessary tools, so I say go for it Home Slice, I’d like to buy 100 or so copies so I could give them away like I originally planed, don’t care too much what pictures you add, but I would like to decide the order of the pieces, I’d also like my email added so readers can send feedback, also have one more piece that’s about ready and I’d like that included, wanna see movies of my dreams, the charitable issue is a nice touch, if you make anything send it to the Chicago Humane Society with a designation to help stop dog fighting in the city.

instead of a cut and paste job, I'll email the originals with minor changes and the swears included that Downtown Coffee Brown said had to go. Gonna look them over again just to be sure they still can sing. Let me know when you want to get started.

It'd be better to put it in the form you originally intended.
I'm email (my ex girlfriend) friend who runs an ad company. She has all the ins and outs of publishers, printers, etc.

I'll buy a copy. I'd also be willing to throw down some scratch ($100?) for an initial run also if they get printed in nice square-bound or the like which would require money to do a run. Anyway, feel free to PM me about it. This is definitely a cause I'd put money behind. Also, if we know graphic designers who want to invest time and such into a project like this I think so much the better. I'd like to see a really dope quality book come out of this. Could be a real cool thing!

A shame I don't still live up there. I was in pretty good with the guy that runs the print shop at my former place of business and he would have been more than happy to run stuff for the cost of the materials. Real nice photo quality printing.

Well, I guess by proxy it's not gonna be a kinko special then eh? (
).
My intention is to get the "copy" and get it formated into booklette form. Once layed out text wise, I'll look at inserting pictures/art. It won't be color, the cost would shoot too high right off the bat. It won't be hard cover, but it'll have some stiff paper cover. I'll send it Mayo's way for perusal. From there, I'll set up a printing run.

Thanks ~ I'm just cool with the fact some are interested, and the writer himself is onboard with it.
Once I get the basics set down, I'll post what the printing options are.
For right now, I'm holding, waiting on the revised Mayo stories, and the order desired.

I'll beat the crap out of skitbra to help raise funds.
And donate some art/pics/etc...let me know

Put me up for $10 and a 6 pack of something really cheap if Skit bleeds (nothing personal, but you have to have a goal in any fundraising campaign).
I suppose I can donate a post-crash or cool broken bone x-ray shot if appropriate. I can also coordinate the book tour with misappropriated corporate resources.

Firstly, Thanks to everyone for being so nice and supportive, writing without community can be a desperate and lonely endeavor.
Secondly, it sounds like we have the talent and resources to make this thing pretty nice, so let's make something we can take pride in and help strengthen the community we love.
third verse different from the first, getting some cool B&W pictures together is a great idea, let's open it up to suggestions. I love the idea of an x-ray. A picture of one of the metal bridges in Chicago would be cool too. We could vote on our favorites.
Roman Numeral Four, I spoke too soon about the dog fighting charity. While I would love to support the effort, it's more of a personal charity that I'll take care of on my own. Since this is a community of bicyclists, and more specifically fixed gear bicyclists, we need to put the money back into the community. I suggest we give everything we make, if we make anything at all, to Marcus Moore over at Yojimbos Garage. Maybe we could arrange to send him a dozen or so copies he could sell and keep all the proceeds. With any luck we could help pay the light bill for a month.
last verse same as the first, really, thanks again to everyone, I hope the feeling I have is shared by others, when I ride I don't ride alone. Now let's get together and make something ****ing nice.

"when you ride, you never ride alone."
"You never ride alone."
Well, I spoke with a friend who does design and lay out. She's agreed to a small extent to comp me design work for favors, as yet unspecified.
I'm all ears.

Cafepress.com offers on-demand publishing. (Clickety-click) Their books may be a bit pricey, but they only print as many as you want, and when you want. I'm sure there are other options for self-publishing and on-demand printing available. This is just one you might want to check out.

No. The mayo is in Chicago. The coordinator is in San Diego. The lay out is in San Jose. Photo and art input will be from all around. Purchase can be done anyswheres.
UW Nazi, thanks for the ideas on printing. Will keep that in mind.
