Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

What is that thing? I hate it, whatever it decides that it is.

Which reminds me,

the strangest thing to me about that photo is not the unwrapped bars or the pliers used to hold the bike up, but the tire labels actually opposite the valves.

Could be that the labels on the other side of the tire are lined up (some tires have 2 labels on one side and only 1 on the other).

I've also heard people talk about counterbalancing the weight of the valve stem with the tire label.
