Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Nah not a PS. Graeme Obree (at 43) is gonna go for the hour record on that thing. Yikes, 67x13 138GI.

After reading about the bike and seeing the picture of Obree on it I think it is awesome. It looks kinda funky and stretched out but so functional at the same time. It will be a good year if both Obree and Lance try for the hour record.

If it was anybody's except Obree's and for anything except the hour record, I would label it jackass and forget about it. But god, I love that odd Scotsman and I will forgive him nearly anything. The dude made a bicycle out of washing machine parts and rode it faster than anyone else ever had. If he thinks a saddle needs to be that far back, I believe him. If he needs that much chain slack, I'll give it to him. Everyone else still has to shape up.

Most people around here run their chain 10x too tight.

Yeah when they are in motion like that it can exaggerate the looseness. I was running my chain way too tight for the first month or two and then i was like hmm maybe it's not good that my crank/pedals are vibrating every 1/2 a rotation....

I just noticed the "Bike Porn" thread is 44 pages long but the "Jackass......" thread is 383 pages long.

Is the porn to jackass ratio on the internet really 1 to 9? I thought there was a lot more porn out there.

Ever think maybe the pros know something you don't?

Once you go slack, you never go back.
