Forgive me SS'ers
For three years I rode my single speed in many different permutations. However, this morning was the virgin ride of that same cycle after two weeks of rebuilding... this time it is laden with a SRAM/Sachs 3 speed gear hub........... and I love it.
First "modern" gear hub I've used... is so.. nice. Slick shifting, no derailleur and ease-of-use - just about everything I loved about single speeding. The weight seems minimal to me as I cruised to work at 20mph - fastest trip to work ever... now I can roll off my couch at 8:51am and be at work... on time (yeah, like that happens often anyway).

Your knees will thank you for it. I built a SS last year because of all the praise from this forum and others. It was great until I walked up a couple of hills ... and my knees still hurt the next day.
If I knew I'd live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.

I don't understand people who complain that their singlespeed or fixie or whatever gives them sore knees. I started riding way back BECAUSE football was ****ing up my knees. Riding IMPROVED my knees. Either you guys are pushing major gears or your setup is farked.
As for you mister three gears, well.....I never. *hops on 18 speed road bike, rides away*
( Attention Mr.Joshua - Could you email me? I lost all my email addies when Outlook decided to **** itself recently. Cheerz. )

HEY, Let's not get into that "my knees are better than your knees" argument.

Glucosamine and chondroitin along with a day off every once and awhile has kept my knees feeling good..
I also notice that standing on the steep hills is easier on my knees than sitting and powering.

You dumbass. It's 6 points for a 'goal', one point for a 'behind'. Maybe you're talking about some other Australia that I'm not aware of?
Did you like like my use of an American coloquilaism there? "Dumbass"? Not only do I obviously have superior knees, I'm also bilingual.

Unemployed chemists as refs? Sounds like pro road cycling to me.
Seems like recently the best part about Aussie footy of all codes is their ability to get women drunk and gang **** them, then get found 'not guilty' when their arses get dragged into court. Glad I left footy behind when I was 14. Footy sucks arse.

I hurt all the time from something or another. And if I had known I'd live this long I would have done more things. I quote somebody, "it's better to sit on the porch and regret the things you've done then to regret the things you haven't".

I still ride my SS quite a bit but about a year ago I built a commuter with a SRAM 3-speed hub. I love it!

My SS, formerly an English (German-made) 3-spd still weighs 32 lbs despite a Cannondale aluminum fork, Sun AT18 alu. rims, Kalloy alu. stem and no 3-spd hub. It rides wonderful and is an awesome grocery-getter but I really could use more gears. A modern 3-spd (or more!) internal hub is an excellent idea.
I wonder if Bicycle Forums should have a seperate forum for internal hub gear bikes or a sub-forum of the fixed/SS forum?
What do you think?
