To the OP:
I am guessing that you missed out on the days when you could have been hip and trendy, hence the frothing at the mouth envy.
I'm not really sure what ride distance has to do with anything when it comes to safety, so perhaps 'fixxy ridas' shouldn't take your advice, as it appears to be misinformed.
I'm also not really sure what a 'touring setup' should make one assume, if anything at all, since you appear to dislike assumptions. Do people with racks on their bicycles where you live have to take a bicycles rules of the road test? Denver must be a weird place.
You sound like an angry person who has some pent up anger or frustration about one or more events that happened or didn't happen in your life. Perhaps you should talk with someone about it. This is of course a selfish recommendation, as I would prefer not to have angry people on the road with me.

Take it outside, Sigmeund. I swear to god, everyone who scored better than a D in Psych 101 thinks they can psycho-analyze people. You don't know a damn thing about the OP, so maybe you should stay out of his personal life and stop making BIG assumptions about his personality and life-experience based on a single rant he posted on the internet.

I agree with the message of the OP but the subject line (Dear fixxy rida') and the overall tone of his post made me take all the lights off my bike and smash them, smash them to bits. Tonight I am going to get t-boned just for spite.

Actually, last night I ended up at this party where there were a bunch of blacked-out track bikes locked up out front. I'm enjoying a beer and a cigarette outside and see these kids (man, they couldn't have been older than 18) come out, so drunk they're barely able to walk, dressed all in black grab their track bikes and leave. I was kind of shocked that someone would get on a brakeless bike in "night camo", no helmet, no lights, drunk.
With that in mind, I see where the OP's coming from and agree. But his posting here assumes that all people riding fixed gears are irresponsible, selfish twerps. Which, despite what I saw last night, is mostly not true.

The stealth riders remind me of the little kids playing "peek" who think they disappear when they cover their eyes.
I also note that a significant number of stealth riders ride on the left side of the road, going against the flow of automobile traffic and against the flow of bicycle traffic.
Stealth riding, to me, corresponds to adolescent arrogance (and I hope you don't like it).
Grow up.
If you ride at night get a real light...and ride on the right.

really, i only have a problem with the word you choose to end with. calling someone a *** because you think they are whining is rediculous. it reminds me of middleschool when everyone said gay, but meant stupid except im pretty sure youre old enough to realize that it is actually just derogartory.

i feel like you dont really need a light to see in philadelphia as much as a light to be seen. is there any good omnidirectional light for being seen? ive been considering the superflash blaze package or even two superflashes, but i wonder if theres any do all light. id be willing to helmet mount, haha.

I don't know a damned thing about the OP just like you don't know a damned thing about me or almost every single other member of this forum (I am making a lot of assumptions here, just like I am assuming that you will note the assumptions in your inevitable reply). Now, all that I know about you is based on your hypocritical response.

I think the percentage people that actually knew ahead of time their statement would be offensive and then follow that offensive statement with "no offense" is about 97.3%.
