Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

that's stupid.

if you have to go to such measures to protect your bike from theft, you should be riding a beater.

Isn't that like a $400 bike? How is it not a beater?

That's fair too. I guess I think of a beater as an around-town bike that you dont mind getting wet/muddy/scratched. Theft isn't too big of an issue where I am. A thorough cable lock does the trick.

If my Steamroller were set up it would be my beater. Nothing wrong with treating a Kilo like ****, they fold in half if you crash them anyway.

I should also say that theft deterrence wasn't my main goal. I just like worn and dirty things. And, although I'm not so sure how it'll work out, it's possible that this is going to preserve the frame if I decide to sell it. Oil paint is a pretty darn resilient material. If not, no biggie. I think I've already got $400 of use out of this bike.

i'm sorry, that just reminds me of one of my pet peeves. that pet peeve being when i see a bike listed as custom, but see it's just a fuji track pro that the owner picked the parts out for. imo a custom bike should have, well, custom geometry.

maybe i'm being facetious
