Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Deleterious, go with the Eighthinch black crankset. It's only $50, perfect for a commuter/beater. They just got a shipment last week.

deleterious - just so you know, that's one of Crosslake Sales' house-brand frames, not one of the older Pake frames they sell. Bottle bosses, non-integrated seatpost collar and threaded setup give it away. Nice job, though.

I know this bike doesn't have the best rep around here, but I personally really like it, especially now that I've got tweaked just right and is it supremely comfortable. I ride SS 99.9% of the time, which is why there is no foot retention (and two brakes).

don't think the eighth inches would be very different from what he has now. I'm using some no-name "driveline" branded cranks (came on the frame i bought, which is funny since he spent the money on a CK headset) and they're holding up fine. I just don't like them because they're too long.

also, you're valve stem on the rear is trying to become a 6th spoke!

Yeah, I have a Driveline set too! At first I thought the inside of the left (non-drive side) crank arm said "Drivetrain," which didn't make sense because it didn't have a spider for the drive side! Then I read more carefully. I need new chainring bolts. All of them get loose after a week. Then again, it's just a beater.

You may be right that Eighthinch isn't any better, but if he needs a lateral replacement at some point, they'd be suitable.

at first it looked like you had the saddle slammed forward on a setback, but i forgot brooks have really short rails to scoot it back (which is why VO made that seatpost with tons of setback, whereas the bent thomson has some of the lowest setback of...setback seatposts)

must just be the angle of the shot. looked at first like the saddle is absurdly far forward

Oh, no it's pretty far back, only scooted forward a few smidgens worth, I had originally had a straight post on there but it just was not cutting it even with saddle crammed as far back as possible.

Oh **** the video. I forgot. i'll just upload a gif too busy. I'll do it asap.

I don't like my non drive side. my other crank arm's powder coat is wearing off and the finish on the dura ace crank arm is really nasty, trying to powdered again.
