ROLL CALL!! Hudson County JERSEY Riders....

So I've seen a few fixed gear/single speed riders in the Jersey City/Hoboken area. I was thinking that we should all get together for a ride and meet somewhere. Ride around some, get some beers somewhere and basically just build a little community down here. I usually ride down in the Hoboken/ Downtown JC area.

Let's do this !!

I think what he's trying to say is, because tons of people from New Jersey come to Philly for tourism, the museums, restaurants, sporting events, and concerts, and spend their money in the city and help its economy, they hate New Jersey. So much so that they go out of their way to post about how much New Jersey sucks on bikeforums.

jersey doesn't help the economy, it just clogs up our roads, runs over/doors our cyclists, makes rush hour unnecessarily dangerous, loiters in our commerce districts, etc.

regardless, this is about north jersey; it's a nyc gripe, not a philly one.

Thanks sp00ki for telling me the way you guys see it without being a dick, I appreciate and respect an honest opinion without any "New Jerksey" jokes. I live in south jersey, about 20 minutes from philly.

Well, regardless of how much Philly hates NJ, you guys are still my favorite city. I'm not trying to hate, just trying to understand why you guys hate me so much.

cblaster: we hate NJ because you, specifically have a hard time taking jokes...

no, but seriously. you guys are the worst drivers ever.

and the guidos. we hate guidos.

(the only thing i've been serious about in this thread is jersey drivers.)

we don't hate you per se. in fact, the love of my life is from jersey.
it's the aggressive commuters and friday night binge and bridgers that annoy me.
riding home and having to contend with jersey plated suv after jersey plated suv drag-race accelerating from red light to red light or honking at everything that isn't going in the exact same direction/speed they are gets really irritating.
and don't even get me started on the new jersey transit buses...

Thanks for the clarification. Nice to know that you guys just hate all the problems that I have to deal with riding in New Brunswick too. For that matter, anyone riding near New Brunswick/Piscataway?

yeah, it's terrible. nj commuters have this weird pride about being really aggressive drivers. the problem is, they're so often really terrible drivers.
i'll watch an suv a few blocks away screech around a car they feel is going "too slow" only to end up in a lane with three cabs.
when they eventually stop behind the cabs and end up five or six car lengths behind where they were originally, they honk for a few seconds then slam on their gas to cut someone off only to slam on their brakes because they didn't notice the light had turned red-- and then honk at me two blocks later as i pass them for the third or fourth time at a casual cruising speed.
the worst is watching them honk at pedestrians with a walk sign because they want to make their turn-on-red before perpendicular traffic starts.
i'm sure some jersey commuters are fine, don't get me wrong-- but the problem drivers always seem to have yellow plates.

come to think of it, the only two times i've ever been doored have been by jersey drivers, both times idiots wrapped in their own little world of being fat and fantasizing about quadruple whoppers.

that said, there is very little as satisfying as walking up to someone in the middle of a busy street, putting your finger right to their dome and yelling "Go back to Jersey, you fat fu.ck!"

Yeah, thanks for calling me out on it. I admit that drivers here do suck. At least now I know what philly is talking about when they say they hate jersey. My bad on the non-joketakingness.

the problem with all of the hate on jersey is the generalizations. some people in jersey suck, but a lot don't. some areas suck, but a lot of areas are great. there is more variety in the little state of new jersey than in any other.

anyway, i'm in nyc but if you guys decide to get together for a hoboken or jersey city ride, i'd definitely swing by for that.

so far it looks like fickster, kneebone, Azul the Cat, and @work are down for a ride. there must be more.

If I'm not riding my bike between campuses to get to class, I'm riding to rite-aid for lightbulbs and toothpaste. But hey, stopthekenyans, if you're in New Brunswick, I'm riding the only windsor hour in town. If you see me, scream something stupid at me to get me to turn my head.

haha - actually, a lot of NJ's guidos are visiting Long Island or North Jersey, especially at the beach areas in the summer (many NJ beaches are beautiful).

Long Branch is nowhere near Philly - map - what's there for you?
