it really all depends on where im riding or why...
anything from Youth of Today, Cro Mags, Gorilla Biscuits, Vitamin X, Judge. i have very broad tastes.

whilst careening headlong into traffic, i am listening to Immortal. but only when defying the icy winds of winter, when the night is as black as my soul.

Are those bike-mounted speakers very loud? Just curious.

Yee haw-- I came to this thread specifically to note how great Justice is to listen to while biking. (Also, Matt and Kim and Animal Collective). Unfortunately, I have heedlessly put the entire works of Leonard Cohen on my shuffle as well, which never fails to make me feel like someone has just loaded my bag with large rocks.

Hahaha yeah, that is pretty much exactly the current situation with my shuffle. Half the time: Justice and Lifelike, the other half of the time Leonard Cohen and Cat Stevens.

Makes for some really odd mile splits when I'm running.

Jezus dude, if I was listening to Rabbit in Your Headlights while I was riding, I'd steer myself into a bus. I can't listen to that song when there is anything around that I might use to hurt myself. I don't know if it's because the song is so depressing, or because I can't stand dude's voice and I want the sound of it to stop.

Anyway, my favorite ridin' tunes are:

1. Orion (Metallica)

2. Egosonic War Drums (Blackalicious)

3. Dynomite [Going Postal] (Rhymefest)

4. Wolf Like Me (TV on the Radio)

5. In/Flux (DJ Shadow)

Anyone have any experience with one of these? What brand MP3 player is it?

Info: 2GB MP3 Loudspeaker. water proof , rechargeable, shock proof, full metal enclosure, rubberized controls, 9 hour + run time and a little speaker that is REALLY LOUD and clear. Includes a bar mount, or just put it in your pocket. Safer then headphones any day.

That would depend on the rider and the riding conditions. Personally I prefer something that actually has some sound quality and you need buds or phones for that.

I've got more pedestrian tastes....

Meatallica - Black
POD - Satellite
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
Black Sabbath - Sold our Soul
Godsmack - Awake
Soundgarden - Bad Motor Finger
3 Doors Down - The Better Life
Chavelle
Seether
-----all on shuffle

It's been my experience.....that everyone I've known that were hit by cars...a few from when I worked in a LBS in San Antonio TX in the early '90's, that NONE of them was listening to music when they were riding.

I think that when the dip that reaches for his cigs on the floor board of his Neon, or the moron texting from behind the wheel of his F150, the mp3 blasting out Jesus Christ Pose isn't going to be the cause of the accident.

It wont be the cause, but it might be the reason you fail to avoid the accident. If you can't hear that F150 bearing down on you from behind, so you can't take note of the fact that he's driving like a ******bag and drifting into the bike lane.

Tell that to the kid who was listening to music while riding down some avenue, and didn't hear the fire truck as it went through the cross street at the same time he did.

Now it the city, where sky scrapers block every corner, I would never listen to music while riding.
In suburbia, where I can see all over the place and traffic is much lighter, I would.

My list is one song long. This is my 5K pace song, but really it's effing perfection for anything where you are moving, and want to move faster.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_BZ0UP9Qt0 (Lifelike)

The only problem is that it's worthless to listen to in such a way as you can actually hear other things. All or nothing, which is why I don't listen while I ride as much as I do when I run.

Honorable mentions:
2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SwZt0enD8M (The Fashion)
3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjSSmmI2a9Y (U.S Bombs)
4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s67_nQdRioY (Orbital)
5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=km9fmc3uR-g (Holy ****)

I haven't really been into house music since the early '90s, but damn that song is pretty ****ing good. It might be the video or something, but I really liked that. I just jumped onto what.cd and downloaded that and a bunch of other stuff and I'm going to make a house mix (with Serato). I haven't made a house mix in 15 years or so. It'll be fun!
