I don't actually listen to music on the bike, but my head supplies a soundtrack anyway. Usually 'slow leak' features prominently, and has for like fifteen years now..

I usually sing songs to myself. Often the bits they play on commercials that get stuck in your head.

I did have this one in my head all day during a century ride.

Not to get too off topic here but I do wear plugs on longer trips mainly for the wind noise, but by whom?...(and my V&H longshots are a tad loud too)

I don't know about specific organizations, but there are lots of supporters online in the motorcycling community. Wind deafness is almost inevitable if you ride for years at high speeds.

It was taught at the MSF course I took... Which is a motorcycle safety course (it can be taken every three years to lower the cost of insurance for both your car and bike...! It's a pretty sweet deal)

Today, it was about 21 miles listening to Pete Yorn (Musicforthemorningafter) and 3 miles of Tujiko Noriko + Aoki Takamasa (28). I'm thinking of Pinback if I ride tomorrow.

I agree that they reduce traffic/wind noises. Took the MSF course and loved it though no mention was made to wear plugs for wind/traffic noise.
Although I never heard that term, it's true for any repeated excessive exposure be it wind, concerts, whatever

i'm diggin grind again this week. daughters, tony danza tapdance extravaganza, see you next tuesday, tower of rome, phobia, pig destroyer, agoraphobic nosebleed. most of the songs blend together and sound pretty similar, but the intensity stays high the whole time. I'm a pretty hyper guy so grind compliments that well.

I dont know about that, I think after 1988 Quarthon got a little mixed up. Theres one album where Quarthon is singing about a girl and how hell never eat...uh...you know...her (insert crude word here) again. So stupid! Its black metal, not mourn the breakup of a girlfriend metal and cry about it metal.

Well Blood on Ice is a concept album and has no tunes about wimp-o unicorn red-wine-and-cloves things. It's not Black Metal either. But, of course it's not Hammerheart, Blood Fire Death or UtSoTBM.

Been listening to Burial's self titled on late night rides lately. It fits the scenery of deserted streets quite well.

I have this soft case (originally made for a MD player) that snaps onto one of the straps on my backpack. I load tunes onto my phone, hit play and then throw it in the case. Sound qual is not optimal, but it's plenty loud.

maybe i just haven't heard the right bathory yet, because so far i'm not connecting with it......

i have been enjoying supercontinent a lot. not many vocals so it isn't exactly thought provoking, or distracting. it's great stoner, doom metal that gives a atmospheric background while riding. plus, it's kind of a michigan supergroup with ex-members of the black dahlia murder, idol and the whip etc. and they're on a great michigan label (saw her ghost records). diggit.

Bad Idea and a Broken Bike

My room mate was tossed twice by collisions (within a 2 week period) with cars last summer and thrashed his bike... he now rides one of my back ups... and still listens to his damn ear buds. Hes either got a death wish or fails to see the apparent lesson to be learned here. I share with the opinions of most here in that hearing the road around you is a very important sense while urban riding. I would never ride with head phones blaring.... I for one enjoy the sound of the city as I mash through it... it prob also helps that i dont own an ipod....

End the earbud epidemic!

Ride safe out there... open your ears to the air.

Its still Bathory, so Ill have to give that album a chance. I havent listened to too much past the first four, so it might be awesome for all I know.

That album with the wimp-o songs was from Quarthons solo album (my mistake, it wasnt even later Bathory).
