I moved from Missoula, MT to Oakland, CA last summer. I just bought my first fixed a couple weeks ago and I really love it. I posted on this forum to find a good lbs that sells fixies and was told about American Cyclery in SF where I got my soma. Just now getting the hang of skidding and working on trackstands. I don't know anyone out here that rides fixed but I see them all around. And the other day someone yelled "yo fixie" while I was riding home from work.

hi, my name is chris and i'm from atlanta. i have a ba in sociology, and i currently work WAY too many days out of the week. two part time jobs that end up being one never ending job. anyways, i have two bikes, a powder coated blue steamroller with a miche group, b127 nitto bars, wtb speedmaster rims and some other goodies, and a no-name fixie rain bike with pro-max hubs, salsa rims, sugino 75 cranks and profile airwing bars and fenders. both bikes run 49 x 16. i got one of those disposable digital cameras recently so i'm hopefully gonna finally put up some pics in a day or two.

Hi, I'm Laura. Currently in Cleveland, I hope to relocate to Colorado Springs by late 2004. I work for an auto insurance company (!) in their IT department, doing QA.
I'm riding a shiny shiny bianchi pista, pretty much stock and recently gave away my 70s ss raleigh record. I've got my eyes peeled for a frame for my ss winter beater project. (Thinking of disk brakes?!) Or I might fix it depending on where I winter.
I'm pretty much carfree. I've an xtracycle on order (very exciting) and run a 30-40 mile daily commute (not fixed--yet).

Hey all, I am a newbie around here but am excited to say I got my first fixie last night, I found this thing (https://www.fixedgeargallery.com/markwardt.htm) in the paper for $50 bucks and figured might as well try it out instead of paying lots for a higher quality one and maybe finding out I hate it. The gearing is different then in those pics and he took off the fenders, computer, bag, and changed the saddle but all in all it was a fun experience, the frame is slightly to big for me so I will probably look around for another to swap some of the parts onto. I had a blast riding around last night though!
oh yeah, the whole point of the thread, I live in seattle (right by the space needle) and work at a dental lab (we make crowns, bridges, nightguards, etc..) anyway, hi to everyone I'm glad to say I actually have a fixie now!

I'm Nat, I live in SE PDX. I have been riding an expensive (courtesy of a fortunate insurance incident) 2001 Stumpjumper with slicks and an aftermarket 48t Salsa ring to and from work every day across the Hawthorne Bridge. Early last week, I realized four things:
1. I was trashing my nice XTR stuff riding on the grit
2. My Stumpjumper was too heavy to haul up and down the stairs of my office
3. I only shifted amongst about three gears in my entire commute
4. By avoiding sponsor-plastered spandex suits and only having one gear, I would not be a roadie
Therefore, I promptly went out and purchased "La Reconstruccion", a 1988 Trek 660 (with quite short rear drops) in heinous turquoise and pink for $100 in excellent shape. This coming weekend, I'm ripping off all that extra ***** and using the existing freewheel hub on a 42x15. Later on comes the TT bars and lever(s), the Surly hub and a silver paint job. A co-worker is going to help in the conversion in exchange for the leftover Shimano Ultegra 600 parts.
Advice or comments on my intended setup are greatly appreciated. Additionally, if anyone has done the "take the frame to an auto paint shop and let them paint it with leftover car paint" style of frame painting in Portland, please let me know where you went.
In other news, I own a web programming company (Fusium) in NW and took delivery of my first baby on May 1. This is my first post.

My name is Pouria. I live in Santa Cruz, and am a super senior in psychology at the campus. I have yet to fully ride my fixed gear bikes, as I am not completly done with either projects. I am totally in awe of the fixie ideology and I'm stoked to finish up one of the bikes at least.

Hi I'm JJ,,,I live in West-by-God-Virginia I ss a Vail Cycle Works Mega-one and am converting a mid 80's Schwinn Letour (Chicago built double butted c-moly steel) I work in a Proudce market and just got married this past fall (at Snowshoe) to bike riding chickie whom I met at work. We just built a brand new house we couldn't afford on the top of a mountain in a wooded neighborhood with a mile and a half long lake with rolling terrian (awesome place to ride fixed like having a 3mile private track)..
My wife rides a purple Cannondale that was her first adult bike and has been re-configured many times over the years, and a 90's Nishiki road bike that she has ridden all of 3 miles (Did I mention she'd a MTBer LOL).
I guess I'm a bit of a retro grouch heck even my web-browser is a 90's WEBTV.

Bikes: Rock Lobster track, Colnago Dream, Ti Paramount, Litespeed Vortex compact, Santa Cruz Blur, Bianchi cyclocross...always wanting more...
Dave here, a few months shy of 50 and intend on staying that way for a few years...live in Pensacola, FL or as we like to say L.A. (as in lower Alabama). Ex-career Navy; lived in Hawaii, DC, Guam, Panama, CA, and Miami in past life...looking to move to either Athens GA or Asheville NC within the next year...both are very cool towns.
Current fixie is a Rock Lobster track frame w/TA and Miche 45/18 and can spin it like mad. Also have a couple of road bikes, a Santa Cruz Blur, and a cyclocross bike, but this ain't the right forum for those. Love Nitto drop bars, 80's/90's progressive/alt music, Macintosh & iPod, and my fully auto Capresso espresso machine...it represents the best money I ever spent not including bikes. Yummy.

Sounds like a good start Nat.
We are definitely going to have to get together in this small town. I am more than willing to help you out with the conversion if you want, I have done this to about 6 bikes already
I am currently riding a late-80's Trek w/ the super short dropouts. It was a pain to find a gear that fits nicely.
PM me and we can pow wow on some stuff.
-Pete
P.S. Also looking for people to the Wednesday Night racing at Alpenrose Velodrome. $5 to get in, $5 to rent a bike. Sounds too good.

Born in Seattle Wn, 63 yrs ago. Retired Carpenter/Cabinetmaker at 50. Decided to ride fixed gear bikes forever shortly thereafter. Moved to Fredericktown Ohio from S.F. bay area 5 years ago and restored a large victorian house so I could have a place to house my bicycle collection. So far so good but I may be moving again in a couple of years as the storage space for bikes is becoming crowded. Would be fine if I just stopped buying bikes and parts. Ride every day at least 40-70 miles in the most scenic area for riding that I have found in the country. No traffic on the gently rolling hills of North Central Ohio. I know what you are thinking but it ain't Cleveland.

hey might as well post to this thread, as i've been asking questions of you all...
i'm ben, currently living in the fairly fixed city of columbus ohio, where i just got my bs from ohio state. i guess i'm fairly new to all this...my (ex) gf just didn't get it when i bought an 04 bianchi pista in addition to my trek mtb...ex, huh, whaddyaknow?
anyways, in a couple weeks i'll be a grad student in neuroscience at the uni of michigan...which makes me a traitor to those in the know re: midwest football rivalries, and hooked up with a pretty good education for those in the know in psychobiology. not that osu is anything bad.
my pista is still mostly stock...i've changed the rear cog, pedals, put on a brake and some stickers and innertubes on the frame. and a rear light. when i change it over to a custom unocal motif, i'll post a pic to fixedgeargallery.
if there's anyone in ann arbor, let me know...this fixie thing kicks. i want to convert my mtb now

Other than that I ride a vintage crescent road bike (i know...). Not too many boulder kids around here though, unfortunately...

Hi I'm Alexi, I'm a student at Mass Art work at Starbucks (lower Newburry for those in Boston) and think Will Oldham is God's gift to Music. Though currently a posenger, I am buying a food delivery company in March (4 clients, whoo-whoo!). I own a brown 77 raleigh sprite conveted to a fixie/ss, it has sweet cruisser moon bars. Some times when I'm lucky I get to ride a friends Iro Mark V. For a shiffty road bike i have a mid 90's kestrel sci and I ride a fat-girl for bmx. I'm currently building up a Jamie Roy (well I have most of the parts, waiting for the frame).

i'm trudy, a 25 yo freelance web designer and f/t office peon at columbia university here in nyc.
i ride an off-the-rack fuji track but am always on the lookout for a nice lugged frame in my size (43-47cm). my other bike is a 70s or 80s ross barracuda '3-speed' (really still a single-speed) kiddie cruiser with daisies on the vinyl banana seat! hahah

Patrick (Middle name Frankie).
I ride a Bianchi pista from my home in Brownsville, Vermont to my graphic arts job in Hanover, New Hampshire. That's 25 miles, though I often haul the bike to Cornish N.H. by car to cut the round trip to 34. Have never seen another fixie on the roads around here. People are missin' out. It's very doable. I run 48 teeth on the chainring and 18 on the cog. Got a flipflop hub with a 20 tooth freewheel, which I use 2-3x a year when climbing in the mountains on a long trip.
Painted my bike powder blue and got a peace sign on the head tube.
Are you out there, Upper Valley. Anyone, anyone...?

Hi All! My name is Sam. I've been here only a short while and too busy to read/post for a week or so but I like this forum. I'm 33, currently in Toronto, ON, Canada. I've been a messenger for 11 1/2 years, sometimes here, sometimes there, 8 years or more were in Houston, Texas, I do remember that. I'm part-time on the road about 5-6 hours a day now and in the afternoons I work for UTW doing anything & everything I know how.
I raced a few years NORBA in Texas but only for fun, same w/USCF. Only ever played on a drome, most of my fixed experience is long days at work. I ride a roadbike most of the summer season occasionally riding fixed and ride fixed exclusively in the winter. Right now I'm on a cadillac of a fixie, Urbanite, black & chrome, chopped cruiser bars at 48x16. Just in time it seems as it started snowing as soon as I went out the door this morning.
Hi again, cheers!
