Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

The car isn't a deadly weapon until it's bearing down on you, at which point a u-lock is about 2 rungs below useless. And would you consider a driver more likely to run you over before or after you ding their car with a u-lock? You'd better have a gun or get out of the way, and a gun still isn't a very good bet against a car.
